Nirupama and Rajendra, a dynamic and spellbinding dancing couple from Bangalore-India have over the years created a wave of excitement on the Indian dance scene. With their own worldwide successful company - ‘Abhinava Dance Company’ firmly established as one of India’s most popular and cutting-edge, the duo have been credited with injecting a great deal of innovation, creativity, enthusiasm and imagination to Classical dance. Rooted in the tradition, they have evolved their own distinct style of presentation by fusing ethnic and modern genres of music & dance. Their work integrates traditional Indian classical dance/music with a wide range of classical & global music like Jazz, Spanish, Afro and World Music. They have nurtured their skills in Kathak & Choreography under eminent Gurus & acclaimed choreographers like Dr.Maya Rao & Padmabhushan Kumudini Lakhia & Pundit Arjun Misra from India & Nahid Siddiqui from Pakistan. Nirupama is a serious pursuer of Bharathanatyam is trained under Late Guru Smt.Narmada. She is trained in Abhinaya under Guru Kalanidhi Narayan & has done an intensive study of Natya Sastra vocabularies under Mrs.Sundari Santhanam - a senior disciple of Dr.Padma Subramaniam. Currently Nirupama explores the Margi techniques under the tutelage of Dr.Padma Subramaniam. Nirupama & Rajendra have choreographed & produced dance works featuring an extraordinary range of creative expressions from the deep Indian classics to contemporary. As duo & company, they have travelled extensively performing to packed audiences all over India & several countries across the five continents. They have performed to over 5 million connoisseurs only through stage performances. At the educational front the duo regularly conduct workshop for students in India, UK, Europe & USA. At the BIG HOPE CONGRESS, Liverpool, UK, they had the honour of sharing the dias with Former President of India Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam in the discussion forum on the subject “ Can Arts Save the World “ & at the same congress they also shared Indian art & culture with 700 youth from 55 countries through performances ,talks & workshops. They hold “ A TOP ” grade ,the highest rating on Indian National television & have won several achiever’s awards from Indian & International organisations for their outstanding contribution to Art.
