Work from Home Mom - What It's Really Like

You are the kind of person who just cannot not do anything and sit idle. You are on a leave or have probably resigned from your job in order to go through with your pregnancy and post-delivery period without any hindrances. But now you’re bored and the most ideal situation, according to you, is to work from home.

Not only do you get to engage your brain in some activity, but also get to do it from the comfort of your home, by staying near your child. All the things about work from home are in your favor and you want to go for it. But it might not be nearly as glorious as you may think it to be.

Here is a glimpse of what it is really like to be a work-from-home mom:

1. Multitasking

Working from home means that you have not just one, but two full-time jobs. Attending to and taking care of kids is not an easy task. If you want to complete your work, then you must be able to multitask and get your job done without letting it affect the development of your beloved children. Remember that while you aggressively type away at your keyboard, there will be dirty little fingers that try to reach up and press a key. You need to control your temper and find a way around successfully working in your home.

2. Part-time job, good idea or bad?

This solely depends on you. There are some workplaces that allow you to bring your babies along while you are at work. This may be a good thing if you have a silent little baby who would listen to your every command and behave like a nice child. But more often than not, mothers are unable to stay away from their little bundles of chaos, for more than a little while. This then makes it difficult for you to maintain a balance, and ultimately leads to confusion.

3. Guilt

Your child might be the best baby in the world and might actually allow you to do your work without much interruption. But mothers being mothers, they often tend to feel guilty that they are not giving enough time to their little ones, when they most need it. And it is not without reason. You cannot bring back your baby’s childhood once it is gone, so it is up to you to now make a decision.

All being said, you can always wait for a good amount of time before you think of rejoining work. And if and when you do, make sure that there is an extremely reliable person who would take care of your baby while you are gone.

Also, if at all you do chose to work from home, take up something light so you can get your work done when your little one is asleep. This will not only provide an additional source of income, but will also make sure that you are giving your child all the quality time when they need it the most.
