Getting your baby to fall asleep can be the easiest and hardest tasks together. They sleep almost everywhere and anywhere, but sometimes when you want them to fall asleep the most, they’re going to be wide awake. Cuddling and rocking them are quite effective in making them fall asleep. But sometimes, you have to take the help of certain sounds that also help babies fall asleep faster. This is known as white noise. The noises that help block out the other sounds around you. Most babies react positively to white noise, but with some babies, it just doesn’t work. It has the opposite effect. Make sure to use white noise in moderation, as if your baby gets too used to it, they might not be able to fall asleep without it.
The most effective noise would be the mother’s voice. You could sing them a lullaby to make them fall asleep. If you’re living away from your little one, you could record your voice and make someone play it for them at bedtime. It doesn’t have to be a song, sometimes even talking to them helps. Another idea would be to record the sound of the mother’s heartbeat and play it for your newborn, as it is known to have quite a soothing effect on the baby.
Apart from the mother’s voice, the sounds of other babies itself could be used. It could be the sound of babies laughing, giggling and squealing.
Nature sounds are also known to be quite soothing. This extends not only to babies but also adults. Most often, the sound of the wave crashing on the shore, birds chirping, a waterfall, tree leaves rustling against each other in a forest, are the most common forms of white noise to help aid sleeping.
Certain automatic lullaby machines are available that people use to help put their child to sleep. However, ensure that the decibel level of the machine is appropriate for your child’s age before buying it. You can even download apps that are designed specifically to produce white noise to help your baby sleep.
