When your baby is within you, he is in the safe haven. You would be passing on all the required nutrition. But once your baby steps into this world, his body would be having different nutrition needs. As a parent, it becomes the topmost priority to satisfy the baby’s nutrition needs, especially in the initial months, and help him to flourish into a healthy being. In case your baby is not provided with age-appropriate diet, it could be harmful to the growth and development of your baby in the later stages of life. So, to here is a list of nutritious foods to introduce to your baby in the beginning phase of solid food introduction.
Nutritional Needs of babies after initial 6 months:
As your baby grows, his nutritional requirement grows with him. Your baby will need other alimental food along with the breastmilk. Here are the most important nourishing nutritional foods that your baby’s body demands for his growth and development:
Breast milk is the elixir of your baby’s life. If your baby is breastfed, continue to breastfeed at least till one year. Breastfeed every two or three hours or on demand. Breast milk is a major source of nutrition and also, it also strengthens the immunity of your baby. Alternatively, if your baby is formula fed, offer 24 to 37 ounces of formula milk every day.
Cereals are the good source of iron, zinc and vitamin E. Iron helps in the production of haemoglobin, Zinc helps in the production of white blood cells which fights against any infection, the growth of body cells and its repair. Mixing cereals with other grains such as brown rice and oatmeal with Pear sauce could be highly beneficial for your baby’s healthy growth.
Stage 1 fruits
Soft cooked fruits or fruit puree could be great options to begin with when you baby steps into the seventh month. The first stage fruits that could be introduced to your baby are apples, avocados, apricots, bananas, mango, peaches, papaya, pears, plums and pumpkins. In fact, avocados are wholesome and contain a high number of nutrients than any of its other food-group kin. Once your baby has had several fruits without any reactions, you could make your own combinations of fruits to let your baby try different and better tastes. Raw ripe fruits could be introduced after 8 months.
Stage 1 veggies
Beans, carrots, sweet potato, squash, green peas and potatoes are the stage 1 veggies that could be offered to your tiny tot after 6-month mark. It could be either in soft cooked or boiled or mashed vegetable form. To make it more healthful and colourful, try different combination be mixing and matching the veggies. But ensure that all the veggies have been previously offered to your baby and there were no allergic reactions.
Most of the paediatricians agree that yoghurt is great as the first food for your baby. You can offer your baby the yoghurt mixed with your baby’s favourite puree. It would be rich in zinc and calcium. Your baby needs 3 gm of zinc and 500 mg of calcium each day and having dairy products could fulfil your baby’s needs to a greater extent. After 8 months of age, you could offer whole milk yoghurt and mild cheese to your baby.
Red meat is a very good source of iron. Meat could be served to your baby by adding pureed or stewed poultry and fish (which is less in mercury)to your baby’s diet. But while serving these foods, ensure that the bones have been removed.
