All the changes going on with your body are stressful enough during pregnancy. However, the story does not end there.
Periods during pregnancy
Menstruation or periods are the sign that you do not have a baby in there and the tissue in your uterus sheds causing all that blood-flow. But as you conceive, periods stop and you wouldn’t get periods throughout your pregnancy phase. Sometimes, very light bleeding or spotting might occur after you are pregnant. In case it is persistent or heavy, you must go and see your doctor immediately.
Periods after pregnancy
Women who do not breastfeed their baby might get their period right after five or six weeks of delivery. And if you fully breastfeed your baby, you might not get your period until you stop breastfeeding. However, there is nothing definite about this prediction as periods vary from woman to woman, depends on time, situation and lots of other factors.
Menstrual flow and cycles
After pregnancy, when you begin having periods, your flow might vary from how it used to be. It could be lighter or even heavier but that is fine. Your cycles become irregular too and takes quite a while for everything to get back in place. However, in case your periods do not get normal or stay heavier or lighter, you must see the doctor.
Ovulation and menstruation
The process of releasing of egg by your ovary and the menstrual flow might not happen hand in hand after pregnancy. It could be possible that ovulation starts way before you get your first period after pregnancy. So you must be careful and should have safe sex, just in case.
Hygiene and health
Needless to say you would need to keep yourself and your surroundings clean and hygienic. Also, use sanitary napkins over tampons as tampons are more likely to cause bacterial growth and hence infections. Your menstrual flow could be heavier so it is also important to keep yourself well nourished to cope with all that loss of blood.
