Weight Loss: The Only Routine You Need
When people think of exercises for losing weight, their minds usually jump to cardio-based workout and not strength training. While it is true that you lose a lot of calories and get your heart rate going with cardio workouts, strength training is what really boosts your weight loss.
So, if weight loss is your aim, then strength training is key. It may not give you an intense heart-pounding workout, but in the long run it will help you build lean mass, i.e., muscles, and the more muscles you have, the more fat you’ll burn. When you only focus on cardio workouts, you lose both fat and muscles, because of which you slow down your metabolism.
The more lean fat you have, the more calories you’ll lose during rest. Research shows that a pound of lean mass needs more amount of energy to maintain than a pound of fat does. Muscles are constantly broken down, recreated and synthesised. Therefore, if you have a lot of muscles, then you’ll be burning calories even while simply sitting down. It’s not like you don’t burn calories when you do strength workout and if you want to burn more calories, you can add some cardio exercises along with the strength training. The best workout is a mix of both cardio and strength training. Experts say that having lean mass also helps you do your cardio well. Just like having strong glutes will help you run better.
Ditching your weighing scale is the best thing you can do at this time, as with strength training, you may not lose weight but lose fat. Judge your fat loss on the basis of how your clothes fit. And don’t worry, having lean mass doesn’t mean you’ll look bulky.
It is important to keep in mind that only strength training is not going to help you lose weight. There are many other things to also get into check, like your diet. You have to create a calorie deficit, i.e., you have to burn more calories that you take in. This can be done only by watching what you eat. This means you must eat healthy and also consume healthy calories. Another factor that can hinder your weight loss is your sleep. You should get enough sleep every night, and both too much and too little sleep is not good. Also, stress is an additional aspect to keep under control, the lesser stress you are under, the easier your weight loss is. Well, it is evident that the weight loss process might be different for each person, so let’s all focus on our own progress and not compare our journey with anyone else’s.
