Travelling to and fro can be quite hectic as it is, and even more so when you’ve got your little one to think about. Whether it’s your work commute, social commute or your car just broke down, there are a couple of things you should remember when you use public transport. You won’t have the luxury of privacy or having your vehicle waiting at your doorstep the minute you’re ready. To make it easier, these are a few essential survival tips:
You may have gotten dressed in a hurry or even planned your outfit to look good, but wearing comfortable footwear is a must no matter the schedule of your day. Situations may arise where your bus is overcrowded and you’re forced to stand, or just considering the distance between your house and the bus stop. Avoid tight clothing or high heels during this time as they may also reduce your chances of falling over.
2. Have a wholesome meal
A lot of people face dizziness or motion sickness during commute. Always eat a good breakfast before leaving home in the morning so you can avoid dizziness and dehydration. However, remember to drink just enough water so you don’t have to rush to the restroom immediately, as that could prove difficult in the middle of a ride.
3. Body posture
If you’re sitting or standing in one position for a long time, your blood tends to settle following the laws of gravity. In extreme cases, your brain could then be deprived of oxygen and have you blacking out on the way. Try to continuously keep some part of your body in motion, whether it’s toe wiggling, calf stretches, arm movements etc.
Admittedly, no one is under the obligation to give up their seat for you on an overcrowded mode of public transport. Though it’s basic etiquette, most people tend to avert their eyes or they may have just had a long day as well. Which is why, if you feel extremely uncomfortable standing, do not wait for someone to offer their seat to you. Ask them if they would be willing to help you out by giving their seat up to you.
On reaching your destination, make sure to wash your hands and face. Public transport isn’t always the cleanest mode of transport and it’s important for you, especially now, to avoid falling prey to germs and infections. This would be easy by maintaining basic hygiene and always having a hand sanitizer within arms reach.
