There are so many different healthy habits that we can do in the morning - salt water gargle, oil pulling, early morning yoga and drinking lemon water on an empty stomach. We have all read or heard about the benefits of having lemon water in the morning. It acts as a magical drink that solves so many of our problems. It can help us lose weight by improving our metabolism. It is also known to help clear up our skin by flushing out the toxins from our body.
But too much of any good thing is not good for you. Even drinking too much of water, as you may know, can be fatal. Similarly, if you have 3 or more glasses of lemon juice in a day, it will not be beneficial to you. You will, in fact, start to notice a number of side effects.

Here are a few side effects of drinking too much lemon water on an empty stomach:
1. Tooth erosion
Drinking too much lemon water may erode the tooth enamel, leaving it sensitive to hot and cold foods. This is why you should rinse your mouth thoroughly after drinking lemon water. Avoid drinking lemon water if you already have sensitive teeth.
2. Frequent urination
Lemon contains Vitamin C which increases the production of urine in the kidneys and allows the body to flush out the excess sodium and toxins from the body. This is why lemon water is recommended to those suffering from urinary diseases or hypertension. If you feel like you are having more frequent visits to the bathroom than usual, then it is a sign from your body that you need to cut down the lemon water consumption.

3. Makes you feel lethargic
A glass of lemon water contains a lot of essential nutrients that your body needs. But too much of lemon water can cause headaches, nausea and vomiting. It can also leave you feeling weak, tired and lethargic.
4. May worsen skin problems
For those with sensitive skin, drinking lemon water in the morning may not serve useful. It doesn’t always cure skin problems like acne and can worsen skin that is already dry.
5. Can cause heartburn
Heartburn is caused by acid reflux when acid travels up from the stomach through the oesophagus causing a burning sensation in the chest. Consumption of acidic foods or drinks can worsen a heartburn. If you suffer from heartburn, then you should avoid drinking lemon water. It may even result in chronic heartburn (GERD).
