A baby can indeed bring a lot of expenses with it. Moreover, saving for the future I.e. educational expenses, health care, dental care etc. can be quite heavy on the pockets. Hence, it makes sense to save up on the immediate expenses that come with the baby. Most parents however are often tempted to spend through their nose for their little one.
Nevertheless, here are some tips that can come in handy to save some money after the new baby has arrived.
1. Keep a baby bag in the car
Make sure you always have a baby bag with all the things you need ready with you at all time. Make sure to pack a few pairs of handy diapers, some snacks for your baby and a few changes of clothes. This is because if you forget one or of more of these things you will end up buying them unnecessarily. Therefore, make sure you have a bag with the essentials handy at all times.
2. Make your own baby food
Making your own baby food isn’t as hard as you think it may be. New moms tend to load up on food such as Cerelac and other baby food which although may seem inexpensive adds up. Therefore, making your own mix of baby food like an Apple or banana mash. Another important thing to note is to keep all the biscuits if your baby has begun eating them, in an airtight container as they tend to go bad very soon.
3. Don’t buy baby clothes in advance
Baby’s grow extremely fast at this age which means they grow out of things very quickly. So, it makes sense not to buy too many clothes and shoes of the same size at one go. Take it one step at a time. A tip that would come in handy, is to buy a few sets of clothes that are larger than his or her current size and a few sets which fit him or her now. This way when she grows out of it you can use the larger ones and repeat the same process again. By doing this clothes don’t go to waste and nor does money.
4. Buy diapers in bulk
This is tip that is definitely worth it in the long run. When you buy the larger packets, you end up saving much more than you would if you bought smaller ones each time the need arises. Simple economics, right? So, the next time you go shopping for baby supplies be sure to think big when it comes to diapers.
5. Resort to online shopping
This tip serves two purposes. One, you get crazy discounts on different online shopping websites and I don’t mean just clothes. There are even online grocery shopping stores like ZOP Now or Amazon Now. These websites too offer a lot of discounts and moreover you end up spending less as you buy only the things you need and not get carried away like you would in a store. The second reason online shopping is the better option is that you don’t have to take your crying babies to the supermarket or shops and have strangers give you horrified looks. In the comforts of your home, you’re happy, your baby is happy and more important your wallet is happy.
Apart from the above mentioned ways, there are several other things you can do to save money after the baby is born like open a savings account just for education or investing in a good ole mutual fund for your children. You can also save money by spending more time with the parents in your neighbourhood, that way you can depend on each other taking turns babysitting each other’s kids saving money on the babysitter. Borrowing and exchanging clothes and toys with your family or friends is also a good way to save up on the expenditure.
