A few months after your little one is born and it’s time to step into solid food. You have to be quite careful as this is the time to identify what your child is allergic to and what’s safe for them to eat. You can’t skip directly to completely solid food, it’s better to start with semi-solids. They’re definitely easier to make and the younger your child is, the better it is to stick to one ingredient at a time. Purees are the best form of semi-solid food to give your child. As they grow older and you’re sure of which ingredients they react well to, you can slowly start mixing two or more items for more nutrition.
Bananas are full of energy as they are rich in fiber and potassium. They’re also known to be very healthy for the digestive system when served in moderation. It’s also one of the simplest puree’s to make. All you need is a banana which you need to mash up with a fork. If you want to make the consistency slightly thinner, add a little milk to the recipe.
The same method can be used to whip up a pea puree. Pea’s are rich in iron, calcium, protein and vitamins A and C. The pea skin might make this dish look a little less appealing, so try straining it to make the texture a little smoother.
2. Avocado and Banana Puree
This is a combination of two highly nutritious food items. The benefits of banana are listed above and avocado is extremely rich in essential fats and fiber. The combination also provides natural sweetness and helps you avoid artificial sugars. Mix the two ingredients together in a blender and add some lemon juice or apple cider vinegar to prevent the mix from turning brown. Strain it if you want to get rid of the lumps.
3. Fish, Carrot and Leek Puree
If your child isn’t allergic to fish, this recipe is highly recommended. Fish is rich in Omega 3 acids, proteins and also helps boost brain functioning. Add some ingredients that help mask the smell of the fish, as this may cause some discomfort. Add the fish, carrots, and leek and steam them together for a better flavor. After this, you could add them to a blender for the required consistency.
4. Chicken Puree
This one takes slightly more time to prepare than the rest, but it’s certainly the best way to introduce meat to your kid. Add boneless chunks of chicken to the oil heated pan and stir fry it for a couple of minutes till it’s brown. It should take roughly about 2-3 minutes. Add some water, onions, carrots, and potatoes and stir them together. Put the lid on and cook it for around an hour, till the meat and vegetables are tender. You can then add it to the blender for more consistency and serve it to your little one.
