Pregnancy Changes You Did Not Expect

Pregnancy is the journey that brings you closer to your little bundle of joy. But it also brings with it, a whirlwind of changes that might be more than you were prepared for. It can seem overwhelming and make you uncomfortable, which is why it’s important to prepare for these changes in advance.

So here’s the changes that you can expect, and how best to give yourself relief:

1. Aches and Pains

Pregnancy includes so many bodily changes. It is natural to experience some pain during pregnancy. Backache is one of the most common symptoms because the extra weight of your bump puts considerable strain on your back. To avoid this, maintain a good posture while sitting or standing. While sleeping, lie on your side and use a body pillow for support.

2. Dry, Itchy Skin

The changing hormone levels during pregnancy affect your skin too. Your skin becomes dry, which makes it more sensitive. It’s important to keep the skin hydrated to reduce irritation and itchiness. Nourish your skin with Himalaya FOR MOMS Soothing Body Butter, which contains Cocoa Butter to hydrate your skin, and Glycerine to keep the skin hydrated. It also comes in 3 soothing fragrances - Lavender, Rose and Jasmine, which calm and relax your senses and help you handle stress during pregnancy.

3. Swelling

Fluid retention during pregnancy can cause your feet, ankles or legs to swell up, especially during the third trimester. You may experience a change in your shoe size during pregnancy, so buy shoes that are a size bigger. Choose comfortable footwear, and keep your feet elevated when you’re sitting down. In case the swelling is sudden, it is better to consult your doctor.

4. Nausea and Heartburn

While morning sickness is common in the first trimester, heartburn is most common in the third trimester due to the growing uterus which puts pressure on your stomach and intestines. To reduce this discomfort, start having 5 smaller meals instead of having 3 large meals. Avoid spicy or oily foods. For immediate relief, try having a few spoons of yoghurt.

5. Mood Swings

The hormonal fluctuations during pregnancy can affect your mood and make you feel overwhelmed or stressed out. Try to take long, deep breaths and run a warm bath to relax your body and mind. To relax your senses, try the Himalaya FOR MOMS Moisture Rich Soap, which comes in Rose and Jasmine fragrances, both of which are very relaxing. With Mango Butter, Cocoa Butter and Virgin Coconut Oil, it helps cleanse your skin without post-bath dryness.

Pregnancy comes with its shares of both joy and discomfort, but there’s always a way to handle the symptoms and keep yourself comfortable. So prepare for these changes and try to keep yourself healthy and happy during pregnancy, because happy moms have happy and healthy babies.
