In a bizarre turn of events, a woman in Australia gave birth to a healthy baby which weighed almost 6 kgs! Natasha Corrigan, the mother, gave birth to Brian Liddle Jr. in January, and at birth, he weighed almost double of what the usual birth weight is.
In a Facebook post which went viral after she posted it, Natasha wrote “It’s hard to get our minds around such a whirlwind of a day,” speaking of the birth of her son. “I never dreamed we’d get so much love for our BIG baby boy and family.”
Natasha’s baby boy, Brian Liddle Jr. was born on Jan. 24 at Mercy Hospital in Heidelberg, Victoria. Natasha was 40 weeks pregnant. Brian happens to be Natasha’s third child, the first two being girls. The girls had weighed 3.7 kgs and 3.5 kgs each - almost half the size of their little brother.
But Natasha also says that her son’s heavy frame wasn’t such a surprise to her.
When she was pregnant with Brian, doctors told Natasha that her son was going to be heavier than usual, and he already weighed 4 kgs at 36 weeks.
Although this was an indication that her baby was going to be heavy, she was still shocked when the actual delivery happened and she saw the actual numbers on the scale.
Natasha said, “I never dreamed he’d be this big, thought he’d be an 11 pounder [5 kgs] at the max! But we were blessed with a safe delivery of a 13.5 pounder [6 kgs]! I’m still in shock!”
She says her new baby was a dream come true. “I dreamed of a little fat baby,” Corrigan said in an interview with 7 News. “I’ve always wanted a little fat baby and I’ve got a big one!”
Brian Liddle Jr. also broke records down in Australia, and could possibly be the heaviest baby born in Victoria. But he wasn’t able to make it into the Guinness World Records.
Whatever the case, Natasha firmly believes that her baby boy’s birth is an achievement, especially so since she gave up the use of an epidural to give birth naturally.
“I think I was in a bit of shock because the birth was natural and I only had gas so I was still in a bit of shock just from that,” said Natasha, talking about how she had to keep making herself think positive and remain calm during the delivery. “The power of positive thinking during birth, be positive, breathe deep.”
This story definitely counts as one of the most shocking stories we’ve come across. Giving birth to a baby who is that heavy, that too naturally, is something special alright. It is nothing short of a miracle that both mom and baby were healthy after! Hats off to Natasha for this feat!
