Whether you're in your 20s, 40s, 60s or any age in between, there are certain beauty habits you should be doing every day like a ritual. As you get older, your skin changes from what it was in your teens, and starts developing new things, like getting really dry, or developing adult acne. It’s important to tweak your beauty routine with every passing year, so that you can combat these things before they get out of hand.
Incorporate these five skin care habits into your routine and you’ll have smoother, clearer skin in no time.
1. Build a daily routine and stick to it
If you don’t have a skin care routine as yet, probably you have been telling yourself that you don’t have the time for it. Now that was the 2016 you. Starting now, choose some skincare products based on your needs (acne-prone, dry skin, etc.) and stick with it so your skin has a chance to even out. To keep the process as hassle-free as possible, look for a moisturizer that has SPF built in. The best times to moisturize are right after you get out of the shower and right before you go to bed.
3. Remove all your makeup before going to bed
Falling into bed with a face full of makeup can be tempting, but try to take care of your skin before falling asleep. It’s important to thoroughly clean your skin because it’s when you are asleep that your skin repairs itself. Washing your face before going to bed doesn’t simply remove all the dirt that's sitting on your skin. It helps in reducing breakouts and overall dullness in your skin.
4. Exfoliate regularly
While some people might suggest that anti-aging creams and high-end moisturizers are the key to youthful skin, experts say that exfoliation is one of the best ways to achieve and maintain gorgeous skin. A good exfoliating agent will remove the dull top layers, minimize wrinkles, acne, and dry spots to reveal new, healthy,glowing skin. However, you might want to consider the kind of scrub you include in your routine with respect to your skin type. For example, if you have sensitive or acne-prone skin, you don’t want to use a harsh scrub too often. Instead, try a cleanser that contains smooth microbeads just two or three times a week and an even gentler solution for daily use.
5. Exercise Often
Exercising daily is recommended not just for a toned physique but because it’s better for your overall health. Exercising tightens the skin on your entire body. Strength training and cardio boost circulation and improve muscle tone, which results in younger-looking, toned skin. It also reduces stress which causes wrinkles and damages your skin. Just make sure to wash your face post-workout to prevent pores from clogging over your T-zone.
