Natural birth Control After Pregnancy: What Are Your Options?

Most moms love pregnancy and everything that comes with it like showering their babies with kisses, seeing a little version of themselves running around the house, so on and so forth. But that doesn’t mean they wish to get pregnant again and again which is where birth control comes into place.

The most popular type of birth control that is used by women everywhere is birth control pills. These pills do the job effectively but come with a ton of side effects. These include irregular periods, nausea, sore breasts, weight gain, mood changes and decreased libido. Since contraceptive pills alter your hormones, they have an adverse effect on your health which is why you need to make the switch to more natural ways of birth control.

Keeping track of your cycle

For around 3 to 4 rounds, you need to note down the length of your menstrual cycle length. This is the difference between the first day of your present period to the first day of your next period. This will work only if your periods are regular. In general, two weeks before your next period is when your ovulation peeks. For example, on an average, if your menstrual cycle is 28 days long, then on the 14th day is when you ovulate the most. 12th, 13th and 14th days are the extents of your ovulation period. Try and avoid having sex during this time to avoid getting pregnant. This is, of course, not 100% effective but it’s not something to cross off the list either.

Temperature method

Another great way of knowing your ovulation period is by your temperature. Note down your temperature as soon as you wake up by using a digital thermometer. Be as accurate as possible. Ovulation causes a slight increase in your temperature which can be noted. After the ovulation period, your temperature rises significantly which is a green sign. You can combine temperature method with mucus method for more effectiveness.

Mucus method

If you’re not a big fan of tracking number then you can follow this method. Usually, right after your period, the vaginal discharge is very minimum and it starts to increase and becomes clear and stringy is when the ovulation nears. From here on forth, it is best to avoid getting intimate with your partner until your mucus becomes cloudy - This is a sign of your ovulation period being over.

Diaphragms

These are thin, soft rubber rings that can be inserted into the upper part of the vagina. They act as a barrier to cover the cervix. Diaphragms are fitted by a doctor and by investing in them once, you can be safe for a couple of years. Their effectiveness is about 90%. Talk to your gynaecologist and see if diaphragms are a good birth control method for you.
