The pesky mosquito bites could be stingy and uncomfortable for your baby. So, as a parent what do you do to reduce the itchiness and unpleasantness due to mosquito bites? If you are unaware, here is what you need to know about treating it and keeping your baby at content all the time.
Mosquito bites could be treated in various stages.
As soon as you see a mosquito on your baby’s skin, gently sweep away the mosquito and cold compress the mosquito bite. This controls the inflammation and minimizes the swelling and itching. The perfume or deodorant with aluminium chloride in it could help to a greater extent in keeping down the itch and swelling. These also shrinks the size of the bite.
Calamine lotions os hydrocortisone lotions could help in controlling the unbearable itching. They are specifically used for this purpose.
Scratching could cause skin abrasion or break open the skin and may increase the risk of bacterial invasion. It could lead to infections, pus formation. Also, as a parent, we should always make sure the nails are cut short to prevent your child from scratching.

Natural remedies for your baby’s mosquito bites:
Lemon is anaesthetic, disinfecting and anti-inflammatory in nature. It is one of the easily available and the most effective home remedies for mosquito bites. It could be either cut into pieces and rubbed directly on the affected area or the freshly squeezed lemon juice could be applied onto the affected area or you could just rub the lemon peel on the bite.
Using ice or crushed ice is one of the simplest home remedies. The cold nature of ice will numb the skin and prevent the inflammatory chemicals from distributing to the mosquito bitten areas. This reduces the pain or itchiness in the affected area. But ensure the ice is not kept on the affected area for more than 5 minutes, otherwise, the skin could get damaged. Also, it is advised to use a barrier in between ice and skin such as a cotton cloth or muslin cloth. Tie the crushed ice in a cloth and apply it to the affected area.
Use of baking soda on the mosquito bites in one of the most popular and inexpensive method. Baking soda is alkaline in nature and hence helps in restoring the pH of the skin thereby reducing the itchiness quickly. It could be applied to the skin by either diluting it with water or by making it a paste.
The anti-inflammatory and antiseptic nature of the sea salt makes it a most sought after and an effective home remedy. Mix the salt with water and use it to clean the mosquito-bitten areas. This reduces itching effectively and prevents any possible infections.
A neat trick to provide immediate relief from the itchiness due to mosquito bite is applying a small amount of toothpaste on the baby’s skin. This reduces the painful feeling and also itchiness in a short period of time. To avoid any allergic reactions due to harsh ingredients in the toothpaste, ensure to use all-natural toothpaste or stick to the kind of toothpastes which are free from fluoride and sodium lauryl sulfate.
