Babies are wonderful little creatures who have way more intellect power than an adult human. That is why they are able to adapt to their surroundings and learn new things and languages in almost no time. But, sometimes the parents tend to get worried if their little one is even a little late in walking or talking. But what you need to understand is that no two children start doing things at the same time. So, just because your neighbour’s child or even your own elder child started walking at a certain age, it doesn’t mean that little baby will do the same. And thus, in order to give you an idea of how walking and talking in children works, we have mentioned some points below.
One of the first milestones in a baby’s early years is the time when they start crawling on the ground. Some crawl on hands and knees, while others pull themselves in an army-style crawl across the floor. Some don't put their knees on the floor but move crab-like on hands and feet. Some babies never crawl but choose to roll or scoot on their well-padded behinds across the floor. Most start crawling between 6 and 10 months but if your baby hasn't begun to even move slightly by 1 year, talk to your doctor. Also, sometimes babies don’t crawl at all.
Another major milestone in a baby’s and the parent’s life is when their little one starts walking. Most babies begin walking anywhere between 9 and 16 months of age, with almost 50 percent of the babies walking by 12 months. Initially, they start trying to get up and keep standing for some time. Then slowly they try to move while standing and holding some furniture or even the wall. The next stage is when they want to walk while holding your hands and finally they start walking on their own without the support of anything.
Psychologically speaking, a baby in his/her early stages of walking tends to take more risk and thus falls down often while in the later stages they start being a bit more cautious and try to balance themselves more. Also, it is seen that the babies who start walking early tend to fall often while late walkers are more stable in each step they take.
A baby of 12 months typically says one or two words, although only her parents may recognize them. By 18 months, the average baby says between five and 20 words. Between ages 1 and 2, most can put together a two-word sentence, and between 3 and 4, many know and use around 1,000 words. Though a baby starts crawling and somewhat walking at an early age, talking, however, takes a bit longer than that. All you need to do is be patient and keep inspiring them to say words
