Is Organic Food Better For Your Family?
Organic food is the product of a farming system that avoids the use of man-made fertilisers, pesticides, growth regulators and livestock feed additives. Organic foods prohibit GMOs (genetically-modified organisms or crops). Therefore eating and consuming organic food is living life to its most natural form.
The answer is, YES. Organic food is definitely better for your family than any other packaged or preserved food item. That being said, the cost is an essential factor. Organic food items are a little on the expensive side, but are without any doubt, the best that your family can expect to have. Organic food not only has many health benefits in the long term, but it also has several immediate perks.
Children, who are fed an organic diet early in their lives, have a much lower rate of metabolites or insecticides in their bodies. Going organic also reduces the risk of exposure to harmful pesticides. These pesticides and insecticides, which otherwise go ignored in a normal diet, can be very harmful to you and your family. They can lead to fatal diseases such as skin, lung and breast cancer.
Although no food item is 100 percent perfect or residue-free, an organic diet helps you and your family to be relatively healthy. Pregnant women who adopted organic diets experienced healthier pregnancies and had even healthier babies.
Choosing organic meat and dairy for your kids is also the best way to ensure that they’re not exposed to endocrine-disrupting chemicals like the synthetic hormones given to non-organic livestock to speed growth and alter reproductive cycles. Also, choosing organic meat and dairy means your children are not fed meat that was raised on daily doses of antibiotics to speed growth, leading to dangerous antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
A recent study found that organic foods had a higher concentration of heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids as compared to inorganic products. This means that you and your family are having healthy and good quality food. High-quality pasture and forage are not only better for cows but also helps them produce nutritionally superior whole milk.
Organic food is a healthy choice for all of us, but especially for kids. Infants and children are particularly vulnerable to chemicals, in part because their immune systems are still developing and in part because, pound for pound, they’re exposed to more chemical residues than adults. Another reason is that children and babies tend to eat a lot more of certain foods than adults — think bananas or apples.
The developing fetus in the mother’s womb is perhaps the most vulnerable of all. Various scientists tracked the exposure of certain higher amounts of organophosphate pesticides, to certain women, while pregnant. The studies found that once these kids reached elementary school, their IQs were several points lower than those of their peers.
Organic foods, all in all, reduce health risks by at least a 94% and decrease the toxicity in the human body. The switch from inorganic to organic might be a little gruesome. It is at times even challenging, but organic food is definitely a better choice for you and your family.
