Samosa is an Indian fried dish with samosa masala which consists of spiced potatoes(aloo), onions, peas( matar) or lentils. The recipe of samosa is quite easy and can be easily prepared at home. There are various types of samosa like chicken samosa, bread samosa, aloo samosa and so on and all their recipes are easy too. It is suggested by the doctors to avoid having samosa during pregnancy as it creates heartburn and other digestive problems.

Nutritional Value Of Samosa
Samosa is an Indian snack which people usually prefer to have in the evening. The recipe of samosa, aloo samosa bread samosa and chicken samosa are mostly the same. The ingredients for the recipe of samosa are :
For the Dough:
Maida (2 cups)
Ghee (4 tbsp)
Ajwain (¼ tbsp)
Water (⅓ cup)
Oil (1 cup)
For the Samosa Masala:
Potatoes (4 cup)
Peas (1 cup)
Mustard seeds (¼ tbsp)
Coriander powder (½ tbsp)
Mango powder (½ tbsp)
Saunf (¼ tbsp)
Green chilli (1)
Garam masala (½ tbsp)
Red chilli powder (½ tbsp)
1. Combine all the dough ingredients and knead a soft dough
2. Boil and peel potatoes and cube them
3. Heat oil in a pan and fry the mustard seeds. Mix it with peas and other spices
4. Add the cubed potatoes and mix it well
5. Mash the potato mixture gently and let it cool for some time
6. Roll out a small golf size dough and use a rolling pin to roll it out in a circle
7. Divide the circle into two halves
8. Make each part into a cone shape
9. Using a spoon fill in the samosa triangle with the mashed potato-pea mixture
10 Apply water on both the open ends and slowly press it down in order to securely seal both the ends
11. Heat the oil in a pan and fry the samosa till golden brown in colour
Is it Safe to have Samosa During Pregnancy?
It is advised by the doctors to avoid samosa during pregnancy as pregnancy is a time period in which the immune system changes so as to protect the developing baby. By having samosa the risk of getting a food infection or stomach bug increases. Studies have shown that samosa can be very fattening. It also causes heartburn. Heartburn (a symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD) occurs in one-quarter to one-half of all pregnant women.
It usually begins in the first or second trimester of pregnancy and continues throughout the remainder of the pregnancy. Heartburn during pregnancy is usually mild and intermittent but it can be severe in some cases. The basic cause of heartburn is due to the reflux of acid from the stomach into the oesophagus. This happens due to the intake of snacks such as samosa. Cholesterol, trans fats, refined flour and the unhygienic conditions are ample reasons to avoid having samosa.
Trans fats are generated when liquid oils are turned into solid or semi-solid fats through hydrogenation, a process by which hydrogen is added to vegetable oil. This happens when oil is recycled during cooking or when food is heated over and over again in the same oil it was cooked in. Hydrogenation affects the shelf life of some items while making them tastier: crispiness of samosa.
All this affects the digestive system and causes digestive problems. One of the main digestive problems caused by samosa is constipation. The intake of samosa also causes food poisoning. There is a higher risk of food poisoning if samosa is bought from the street vendors.

Doctors have advised certain foods which need to be avoided during pregnancy. They are as follows :
Do not eat raw sprouts as they are highly prone to listeria, salmonella and E.coli bacteria. Through studies it is proved that listeriosis could lead to premature birth, miscarriage, stillbirth and infections in newborns. Salmonella and E.coli can lead to severe illness.
Do not eat soft cheeses such as camembert, roquefort and blue cheese unless they are pasteurised. Unpasteurised soft cheese also contains listeria.
Do not intake smoked and refrigerated seafood, which are labelled as lox, jerpy and kippered as they contain monocytogenes bacteria which causes illness in newborns and even stillbirth.

Junk Food Effects
Junk food only has negative effects which affects the health of a human being severely. Following are the negative effects of junk food :
The combination of fat, sugar and sodium (salt) makes junk food tastier to many people. Diets high in sodium leads to water retention which is why the person feels puffy, bloated or swollen after the intake of junk food. A diet high in sodium is also dangerous for people with blood pressure conditions. Sodium can elevate blood pressure and put stress on the cardiovascular system.
Excess calories from junk food causes weight gain which leads to obesity. Obesity increases the risk for respiratory problems, including asthma and shortness of breaths. The extra pounds put pressure even on heart and lungs.
Junk foods also have an impact of the skin's appearance as it is rich in carbohydrates. Carbohydrates rich foods leads to blood sugar spikes, and these sudden jumps in blood sugar levels may trigger acne.
The ingredients in junk food may have an impact on fertility. One study found that this type of food contains phthalates. Phthalates are chemicals that can interrupt how hormones act in the body. Exposure to high level of these chemicals could lead to reproductive issues including birth defects.
Hence it is suggested to skip samosa as an evening snack instead snack on something which would be satisfying and healthy like nuts. Healthy snacks would not only help to keep the cholesterol in check but also help to cleanse the system from harmful toxins.
