As a parent, you want to raise your child to be a successful and the best version of himself or herself. And being smart will give them an upper hand in every situation. Unlike what you might think, raising a smart child doesn’t include constant coaching classes or doing anything out of the ordinary. Your child can become smart just by doing everyday things like:
1. Reading should be an everyday activity
Encourage a reading habit at a very early age. Read to your child every night and allocate an hour for your child to read outside of the school syllabus. This will develop their intelligence and vocabulary. As your child grows older, give them the choice of their book by making books of different genre abundantly available. But don’t force your child into reading books; That’ll just take the fun out of exploring and learning new things.
2. Smart screen time
It is recommended to optimize screen time than to minimize it. Make your kids aware of channels like Discovery, National Geographic, history channels and so on… Mix a healthy dose of knowledge channels with entertainment and the time that you have from cutting back on watching television can be better spent in other activities like talking with your child and exercising which will benefit your child’s intellectual ability.
3. Encourage creative activities
Your child’s creativity could be in form of drawings, words or just doodles. Whatever it is - It’s just a way of expressing their feelings. This will increase their confidence and creates a better perspective of view towards the outside world. So always keep plenty of crayons, papers and art supplies available for your child to play around with and don’t judge the artwork that comes as a result of their creativity, no matter how strange it looks.
4. All work and no play is not the way
Raising a smart child doesn’t always mean that you put them under the constant pressure of working on themselves. In fact, playing is as important as studying to make your child the best possible version of herself. Take them to the playground every day, the shapes, colours and the structure of the playground equipment will help stimulate your kid’s brain.
5. Talk about everyday things
Talking to your child about anything and everything is essential. Your child is learning about the world so every little thing is exciting for them. Share their excitement and take it up a notch by stating facts about things they discuss with you. Get them interested in what is happening in the world by talking about global issues and making them aware; But don’t lay it on them too thick, remember that they’re still kids.
