The hair dye you’ve been using contains more than 5000 harmful chemicals out of which few are even carcinogens. So, it’s time for you to ditch this chemical hair dye and go natural. Here are 4 natural solutions to make your hair darker and shinier:
Heat up a small amount of mustard oil (It should just be a little warmer than room temperature) and apply it all over your hair. Start from the ends and work yourself up towards the roots. Massage your scalp thoroughly for a few minutes and put your hair up in a shower cap. Let it sit for at least 2 hours or more and then wash your hair with a mild shampoo. You might need to rinse your hair more than 3 times to completely get rid of the oil and skip the conditioner while you’re at it. Do this at least 3 times a week to see a significant difference in your hair colour.
A word of caution: Make sure you don’t drop any oil on your clothes as it may stain them.
You might’ve heard elders saying eating curry leaves is good for your hair. Well, it is definitely good for your hair and it even helps make your hair darker (not by eating, by applying it to your hair). All you have to do is boil a few crushed curry leaves in coconut water and then apply it to your hair after it cools down. Let it rest for a few hours before you wash it off with shampoo. You can repeat this every time you shampoo and in a month or so, you’ll see your greys fade away into black.
Brew some coffee beans or powder in a pot (without the milk) and store it in a container. Rinse your hair with warm water as usual and then pour the coffee onto your hair. Let it remain for a few minutes and then rinse it off thoroughly. Use cold water to rinse it off and finish with a little bit of conditioner. The great thing about this remedy is that you decide the amount of darkness you need for your hair. If you want your hair to be a little bit darker, add less coffee powder and adjust accordingly.
Make a mixture out of 2 spoons of amla powder, 1 spoon of coconut oil, 1 spoon of hot water and 3 spoons of conditioner. These ratios may vary depending on the length of your hair. Spread this mixture on your hair in a similar way that you would a mask. Let the mixture stay in your hair for 90 minutes and wash it off with lukewarm water. Using water that is too hot may strip off the colour from your hair. Repeating this remedy once a week will not only make your hair darker, but it will add some volume and bounce to your hair.
