We are no strangers to the horrible monsoon flood that consumed our nation last week. More than 16 million people have been affected in India, Nepal and Bangladesh and more than 400 people have been reported dead. The people in the states of Bihar, UP and Assam had to face the wrath of this storm more severely than the rest of the country.
A heartbreaking moment of a mother and her daughter being washed away during the floods was recorded on camera.
In Araria district of Bihar, a bridge provided the single route between 2 villages over River Kosi. The overflowing river weakened the foundation of the bridge but this did not stop several men and women from crossing the bridge. The villagers fled for safety as the mighty torrent left them helpless.
A family of mother, father and their daughter rushed over to cross the bridge and just when they were inches away from safety, the bridge collapsed. The footage shows the mother and the child falling into the river and getting swept away by the waters as onlookers watched helplessly. The people who had crossed the bridge moments before, came out of the near-death experience only to see the man, his wife and daughter getting drowned in the river. Soon, they were reported dead.
This chilling video shows the exact moment the bridge collapsed and when the mother and daughter were ripped away from the man’s arms as it gave in. You can watch the footage below:
This is sadly the reality in many Indian villages during floods. Villagers flee to what they consider are safer places as the rain drowns their houses. They are at a loss to what to take and leave behind because of improper supervision and eventually end up losing their lives along the way.
In Eastern India alone, hundreds of people fell victims to the enraged flood.
Let us take a moment to pray for all the lost souls and also hope that the government not only provides aid when needed but also takes measures to educate everyone about natural disasters and how to survive them effectively.
