Home Remedies To Fix Dry And Chapped Lips

When your skin is clear and glowing, you don’t even have to wear any makeup. Clear beautiful skin is the only beauty accessory that you need. During the winter, our skin tends to get drier than ever. We also need to apply and reapply a whole lot of body lotion or body butter to keep our skin smooth and soft throughout the day. Those with drier skin would have to use oils to help deeply moisturise their skin.

Lips, however, tend to get dry faster and if you don’t moisturise them enough, they will crack and bleed. They often get dry not only in the winters but also in the summer heat. The skin on your lips is a tad bit drier than the rest of your body and this is why you need to reapply your lip balm so often. Bold red lips are always in but when your lips are naturally plump and healthy, you don’t need anything more than a bit of lip balm before you step out.

This is why caring for your lips is highly essential. You don’t even need a lot of products to treat your lips so it really isn’t that difficult to look fabulous even during the dry winter months and the dehydrating summer months. Drinking plenty of water is key to having skin that looks good all the time. Read on to find out how you can keep your lips looking plump, pink and healthy - all day, every day.

1. Almond oil

Whenever your lips feel too dry, simply dab on a layer of almond oil on your lips. This will help rehydrate your lips and nourish them with Vitamin E and C. The vitamins helps fight away free radicals. The oil is also great for treating dry and damaged hair.

2. Cucumber

Take a few thin slices of cucumber and mash them up. Apply this paste on to your lips and leave it for 10 minutes. Rinse with normal temperature water. Do this twice every day. The cool cucumber slices help rehydrate your lips. They can be your best friend in summer as they can helps reduce any redness or flakiness in your skin.

3. Vaseline

Has your lip balm run out? Don’t worry! Vaseline petroleum jelly can be used as a lip balm too. All you need to do is apply and reapply it as you would with your regular lip balm - you will find that you don’t have to reapply as often. Apply a layer of vaseline before going to bed so that your lips don’t dry out in the night.

4. Honey

Honey is actually great for chapped lips as it acts as a humectant. Just apply a bit of honey on your lips, leave for a few minutes, and rinse off with warm water. You can pair it up with vaseline and make the best of both of them. For this, apply honey on your lips and layer the petroleum jelly over it. Leave on for 10-15 minutes and wipe it off with a damp cloth or tissue. This will leave you with smooth, plump lips.

5. Sugar

As you do with your face, your lips need a little bit of exfoliation as well. Mix 1 tsp of sugar with 1 tsp of honey. Stir well and then apply it to your lips. Rub the mixture in circular motions on your lips for a minute. You can use a baby soft toothbrush for this or use your fingertips. This will get rid of the dead skin on your skin, leaving your lips smooth and fresh. Apply a layer of vaseline over your newly exfoliated lips and you are good to go!

6. Rose

Believe it or not, rose can actually be used to get those soft, pink lips you want. All you need for this is a hand full of rose petals and a cup of milk. Wash the petals thoroughly and then soak them in the milk for 3 hours. After this, remove the petals and gently mash them up. Apply the mashed rose paste on your lips and leave it on for 20 minutes. Do this once every day - you will notice the difference in a week. The rose petals help nourish your lips with Vitamin E whereas the lactic acid of the milk helps exfoliate your skin by removing the dead skin cells. Also, the fats, vitamins and minerals present in milk help deeply nourish and hydrate your lips.
