Home Remedies for Gas Pain in Toddlers

Whether you have a little toddler on your hands or a young child who’s just starting to learn the ways of the world, the problem of passing gas is fairly common and rarely a cause for concern. From antibiotic medications and unhealthy foods to incorrect chewing practices and drinking less water, there can be plenty of reasons why your child has gas. While passing gas is a regular occurrence, an inability to pass gas easily can lead to pain, discomfort, and other serious complications such as bloating and flatulence in your child.

The trick to identifying if your toddler has a problem passing gas is to pay attention to the way he or she cries and how fussy your children get when compared to other times. Along with increased flatulence and burping, your kid may find it difficult to sleep and have irregular bowel movements.

For timely relief in such a scenario, you can rely on these easy-to-do home remedies:

Asafoetida Powder

Asafoetida’s antispasmodic and anti-flatulence properties make it an excellent option for gas pain relief in toddlers. In addition, it works wonders to improve your child’s digestive ability. To begin with, mix a pinch of asafoetida powder in 1 tablespoon of warm water. Apply this mix around your child’s navel in a clockwise manner. Alternatively, you can also mix a small amount of asafoetida powder with mashed ripe banana. Feed this mix to your child 2-3 times in a day. If you still breastfeed your child, just add half a teaspoon of asafoetida powder to a glass of warm water and drink it twice every day.

Fennel Seeds

Fennel seeds possess carminative and antispasmodic properties. This makes it effective in the dissipation of trapped gas, thereby facilitating timely relief from gas pain. In addition, fennel seeds help prevent gas formation and provide relief from other digestive issues in toddlers.

For starters, boil one and a half teaspoons of fennel seeds in 4 cups of water for 10 minutes. Let the mixture cool before you give it to your baby. Ensure you give the mix in small doses at least 2 or 3 times throughout the day. Even you can drink this decoction if you still breastfeed your baby. If your child can chew the seeds, half a teaspoon of fennel seeds a few times every day should suffice.

Chamomile contains chemicals that help reduce intestinal gas. In addition, chamomile also improves digestion and prevents gas formation in toddlers as it relaxes your child’s digestive tract muscles. For gas pain relief in your child, add half a teaspoon of dried chamomile flowers to a cup of hot water. Cover the mixture and leave it alone for 10 minutes. Now, strain the mixture and add a little honey before allowing it to cool down to room temperature conditions. Make your child drink at least 2 or 3 teaspoons of this mix several times in a day. You could also drink a cup of chamomile tea 2 or 3 times a day if you breastfeed your kid.
