Anxiety and depression during pregnancy are a common occurrence. And as such, it is important that you try to be happy as much as you can. It has been scientifically proven that the mood of the mother actually has a significant effect on the development of the baby in the fetus. This, in turn, results in problems for both the baby and the mother. So, it becomes all the more important to fight this depression and to help you do that we would like to recommend some tips.
1. Eat foods rich in Iron, Zinc and Vitamin C
Iron and zinc deficiencies have been associated with depression in pregnant women. Vitamin C is also vital, not just for its multiple benefits, but as an aid for iron absorption. Also, with a baby on the way, it becomes even more important that you have proper food and keep your diet filled with nutrition.
2. Sleep Well
Improper sleep and uncertain sleeping routine have also been termed as a reason for depression. Until and unless you don’t get proper sleep, you will not be able to get the required amount of rest that you need. Moreover, you have another human being inside you who is drawing energy from you. Thus, it becomes all the more important that you take the proper amount of rest not just for you but for your little one’s sake as well.
3. Make it a routine to exercise daily
Even for pregnant women, it is important that they do some amount of exercise on a regular basis. There are various types of exercises that you can do which will not affect your little one and will actually help improve your mood. Exercising helps release happy feeling hormones and adrenaline. This, in turn, helps keep your mood elevated and gives you the happy feelings.
4. Avoid having foods that cause inflammation
Avoid inflammatory foods like processed carbohydrates, refined sugars, caffeine, and products containing artificial additives. Inflammation has been seen to play a key role in causing depression. Besides, an upset stomach can cause a multitude of other illnesses as well and thus, it becomes important that you keep a check on the type of food you are eating.
5. Take help from family, friends or doctors
The one thing that is most important for someone who is suffering from depression is talking. Just by talking about what they are feeling or going through, the brain gets time to find a way to solve the problem or at least the people around you can help you get through with it. So, try talking to the people close to you. And if even that fails then it becomes all the more important that you take medical assistance in order to keep yourself happy and tension free.
