Babies are sensitive beings and they need an all-round protection against germs, bacteria and another harmful virus that may be lingering anywhere.
If you notice small sized ulcer popping up on the surface of the body, you need to alert yourself because it could be indicating that your baby has been infected with the hand foot and mouth disease.
What is hand foot mouth disease?
This is a disease which generates rashes on prominent places of the body like the mouth, hands, and feet. It is a disease which can occur at any time of the year.
It lasts for about a week and it isn’t that harsh or serious illness. Since children develop a good immune system by the age of 10, it is important that you are cautious because preschoolers are most prone to catching this disease.
What are the symptoms?
If you notice the following symptoms, be sure to get medical assistance immediately.
Loss of appetite
Ulcer in the mouth
How does this disease get transmitted?
This is a contagious disease which spreads through physical contact with an infected person. It may spread through saliva, fluid blisters, droplets from coughing or sneezing.
This disease can spread easily through unwashed hands because they will have the traces of the virus that causes it. The risk of this disease spreading is between the first 3 days after acquiring it. This is because the virus will be more active during this phase so it is important that you teach your child personal hygiene.
How to prevent this disease?
It is important to play by the rules of hygiene to defend yourself against hand, foot and mouth disease. You should implement habits like washing hands every time before meal after coming in contact with the external environment.
Teach your kids to wash their hands with hot water and soap. Hot water has a property of sterilization which cancels out any chance of your child spreading or getting infected by this disease.
They should make it a point to wash their hands even after visiting the public restrooms or any other public places.
Teach them not to put their hands or any other object in the mouth. Not only because of the choking hazard but the bacteria and the virus that is present all over it.
Sanitize and disinfect the toys your child plays with because there is a possibility that the virus could get transmitted through it.
If your child has any of the above symptoms, refrain from sending your child to school so that the risk of spreading to the other kids will be reduced.
