Why spend thousands of rupees on hair spa treatments in a salon when you can do it right in the comfort of your home? They’re just as if not more effective and you don’t even have to use harsh chemicals on your hair that’ll do more damage than good.
When you go to the hairdresser and complain about how dry your hair is becoming or if they take the liberty to notice it themselves then you know that hair spa is the first thing they’ll suggest to you. It makes your hair shiny and smooth, gets rid of split ends and makes your hair stronger. Here’s how you do it:
Step 1: Oil massage
Most popularly used oils are coconut oil, olive oil and almond oil for a hair oil massage. Take a required quantity of one of these or you can even mix them and add a few drops of vitamin E oil and other essential oils for a fancier mixture. Heat the oil in a microwave or a stove for a few minutes and make sure it’s not too hot before using it.
Apply this oil all over your scalp and massage in circular motions. Start from the scalp and work your way to the tips of the hair strands. If you’re suffering from split ends, you might want to apply a little bit extra for the tips for extra nourishment.
Dip a towel in warm water, squeeze off the excess and wrap it around your hair in a bun. You can let this be for about 20 to 30 minutes.
Step 2: Hair wash
Wash your hair with a mild shampoo or a shampoo that is more suited to your needs like a protein shampoo for weak hair, anti-dandruff shampoo if you’re suffering from dandruff and so on. Don’t over rinse your hair, just enough to get rid of the oil. Also don’t use your nails while washing your hair, use only the tips of your fingers.
Skip on the conditioner as the next step will give your hair all the hydration it needs.
Step 3: Hair mask
The most important step in a hair spa is the hair mask. But of course, not everyone can use the same type of hair mask. Depending on your hair type and the problems you are facing, you can use. A few masks you can try are:
Deep conditioning mask - The most simple yet effective mask one made by blending bananas and olive oil. Take around 2 bananas and a spoon of olive oil and blend them together. Apply this thick paste all over your hair from the scalp to the ends and let it remain in your hair for at least 30 minutes before you rinse it off.
Mask for dry and damaged hair - Take half a cup of honey, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, a few tablespoons of avocado or egg yolks. Stir all of them together and apply the mixture to your hair and wait for 20 minutes.
Moisturizing mask - Mix a cup of yogurt with a few spoons of honey and voila, you have a hair mask. Slather this mask generously all over your hair and wait for a minimum of 30 minutes before rinsing it off.
While applying the mask, put a towel on your shoulders and a shower cap once it’s done to avoid ruining your clothes. Wash your hair and follow it up with a conditioner to get that smooth, flowy finish. Don’t use a hairdryer, let it air dry and follow it up with serum and you’re done.
Do this once in a month or two months depending on how much improvement you see on the first try.
