At one point or the other, all of us have suffered through a headache. Sometimes it gets so severe that even your daily cup of coffee is no match for it. Whether it’s a head splitting, screaming out loud sort of a headache or a mild throbbing one, painkillers aren’t the only solution.
There are several natural remedies that are much more safe and effective. And the best part is that all of these ingredients are right in your home!
1. Herby Mint leaves/Pudina
Mint leaves contain menthol and menthone which are very helpful in relieving headaches. Extract mint juice by grinding them or crushing them in your hands and apply it over your forehead. You can also use coriander leaves in place of mint leaves and use it in a similar way.
2. All hail, Ginger
What is ginger not helpful for? This all-rounder is an elixir for headaches because of the anti-inflammation properties present in it. There are several ways to use ginger to get rid of headaches:
- If you’re looking for something oral, then mix equal parts of ginger juice and lemon juice and consume it. If you’re someone who has headaches constantly, drinking this every day can even serve as a preventive measure more than a cure.
- You can also put some shreds of ginger in hot water or steamer and inhale the vapours for a good 5 or 10 minutes.
3. Cloves love
Cloves have cooling and pain-relieving properties that can soothe a throbbing headache. Just crush about 5 or 6 cloves in a piece of cloth and inhale the scent when you’re experiencing headaches. If you can get your hands on some clove oil, then you can use it to massage your forehead.
4. Apple to the rescue
Not many know that eating an apple with some salt sprinkled on top and following it up a glass of warm water is a great way to get rid of headaches. You can also drink a glass of water with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in it. Because apples help in balancing the acid and alkaline levels in your body, your headaches will bid you adieu in no time.
5. Good old cold compress
Using a cold gel compress or an ice pack provides a numbing effect thereby effectively reducing headaches. You can also use frozen vegetable packets if you don’t have an ice pack. But it’s not on your forehead that you need to place the ice pack, press it against the back of your neck. You can use a washcloth to remove the water from your skin and repeat the process again.
