Fruits are packed with essential nutrients and vitamins. You can eat fruits anytime and rest assured that you are taking care of your health. The summer heat is ever tantalising and dehydrates our body in ways we can’t fathom. Taking extra care of yourself and eating healthy are extremely important things to do this summer.

Fruits have a lot of water content in them and are extremely nourishing. Don’t forget to grab the benefits of all seasonal fruits. There is a reason why they are grown in that particular season. Make sure that you choose fresh fruits and eat them shortly without storing them for too long.

Here are some fruits you should eat this summer:

1. Blueberries:

These plump blueberries with a taut skin and a dull white frost have many disease fighting antioxidants. You can get a boost of energy every morning by drinking a blueberry smoothie.

2. Cantaloupe:

The fruit should be slightly oval in shape with a sweet aroma. Ripe cantaloupe can be stored in the fridge in a plastic container for up to 5 days, after which it starts losing its flavor. Cantaloupes are loaded with vitamin C which will give you protection against sun stroke and excessive heat.

3. Figs:

While figs must be soft, make sure that they are not mushy. Keep away from those with bruises or sour odor. Figs contain phytosterols which helps keep cholesterol level in check.

4. Grapes:

Grapes are available everywhere during the summer season. Both black and green grapes are equally nourishing and can be stored in the fridge for up to one week. Grapes have an antioxidant known as – Resveratrol which offers protection against cardiovascular diseases.

5. Kiwi:

Steer clear of those that are mushy, wrinkled, bruised or those that do not smell right. You can store them at room temperature to ripen them quickly. Kiwis are loaded with antioxidants and vitamin C and have very low calories.

6. Lemons:

Lemons are great foods for summers and are available in abundance almost everywhere. You can store them at room temperature for about one week or refrigerate them for a maximum of 2 weeks. They contain phytonutrient liminoids which have anticancer and antiviral properties.

7. Mangoes:

The king fruit of the season! Mangoes have several benefits and are consumed in both raw and ripe forms. You can make several dishes out of them and store them for future consumption. Making pickles from green mangoes is an extremely popular thing in India. You can either make smoothies from ripe mangoes or you can choose to eat them directly. Mangoes are rich with the goodness of vitamin C, B6, A and fibers.

8. Peaches:

Store unripe peaches at room temperature and transfer them to the fridge once they have fully ripened. They can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days maximum. Peaches contain Vitamin C, beta-carotene (antioxidant), fiber and potassium.

9. Pineapple:

Keep a pineapple with a weak aroma at room temperature for up to 3 days until it softens slightly. Then refrigerate it for up to 5 days. Pineapple contains an enzyme called – Bromelain – which has anti-inflammatory powers.
