5 Foods That Help You Get Pregnant Faster

There are a lot of factors that lead to a pregnancy. A few factors can inhibit pregnancy or act as a barrier. It is very important to visit your doctor when you plan to get pregnant so that he/she can guide you on how to go about the process and what precautions to take.

Most women are aware of majority of the things that are not advisable when planning to get pregnant. Smoking and drinking should be completely given up. A lot of healthy habits need to be induced when one is planning to get pregnant and the most important aspect of health is our body.

We are what we eat. Healthy eating habits will not only make you strong and your body ready for a pregnancy, but continuing with those habits will help you during the entire course of your pregnancy. Certain power foods are known to help in boosting fertility, thereby increasing the chances of a pregnancy. This is becuase they tend to affect specific bodily functions that are necessary to get pregnant. Here are 5 food items that can help you get pregnant faster:

1. Beans.

Beans are known to be a rich source of plant-based protein. Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health conducted a study of about 19,000 women in which they found out that the rate of infertility was almost 39 percent more in women who consumed too much animal protein. On the other hand, women whose intake of plant protein was relatively more were more likely to conceive without too many difficulties. What's more, you can use beans in several different ways. Whether you want to make a salad or some other elaborate dish, just toss in a few beans. If you do not like beans then you can consume lentils, tofu or nuts as a substitute.

2. Ice-cream.

Yes, you read that right! Most people believe that eating ice-cream classifies as eating junk and is hence, unhealthy. A study conducted showed that one to two servings of whole milk products (such as ice-cream!) protect against ovulatory infertility. This thereby increases your chances of conceiving. The best part is that you do not have to go for those low-fat and skim milk ice-creams that are no good for the taste buds. Assistant professor of nutrition from Harvard School showed how consuming skim and low-fat milk can actually produce undesired results. They tend to hinder the production of certain hormones. While this is good news, try not to go overboard with it at the same time.

3. Whole Wheat Bread.

Complex carbohydrates take a longer time to digest than refined ones. Hence, help keep the blood sugar and insulin levels stable for a longer period of time. Increased insulin levels disrupt reproductive hormones and can hinder pregnancy. A Dutch study of 165 couples conducted over a period of 6 months found that women who had high blood sugar levels were only half as likely to conceive as women who had stable blood sugar levels. So, make sure that you always choose dark bread over light and brown rice over white when trying to conceive.

4. Olive oil.

Olive oil is a mono-saturated fat that will help keep insulin levels in check by increasing insulin sensitivity and will also help decrease inflammation throughout the body. Inflammation interferes with ovulation, conception and early developmental stages of an embryo. You can use olive oil in salads, different kinds of pasta and in various other dishes.

5. Wild Salmon.

If you love seafood, then this could be your go-to dish. Wild salmon is a cold water fish that is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. This food may help in regulating blood flow to reproductive organs and also help to regulate reproductive hormones. Salmon has a relatively lower content of mercury than other fishes. Hence, it is much safer to consume when trying to conceive.

While these are just a few foods that can help boost fertility, increasing your chances of pregnancy - your doctor will give you an even more elaborate list of dos and don'ts when trying to conceive. Try to maintain healthy habits throughout and don't eat too much junk food. While it is okay to indulge in junk food and have cheat days once in a while, try not to go overboard!
