Everything You Need To Know About Wearing Your Baby!

Parents everywhere are always trying to protect their little ones and provide them with only the best of things in life. This includes everything from providing the right baby food, buying them soft comfy clothes, cleaning them up and cuddling them whenever they need it. What better way to cuddle your baby than to wear them on you?

Well, there is still a lot of debate on whether babywearing is really good for your baby or not. Some people think that it is essential to ensure babies feel a sense of security all the time. Others say that it may be difficult for them to fall asleep on their own later in life. Wondering what is best for your baby? Read on to know everything about baby wearing.

Benefits of wearing your baby:

1. It can help prevent cranial deformities:

When you place your baby in a car seat or baby swing, it can cause spinal or cranial deformities.

2. It can help regulate their breathing:

Baby wearing is known to bring the baby’s heartbeat and breathing pattern to mimic that of the one carrying them.

3. It can help aid breastfeeding:

When you keep your baby close to your body, you would know sooner if s/he is getting hungry and you can nurse them before they start crying.

4. It will help comfort and soothe your baby:

Babies who are carried tend to cry lesser than ones who are not.

Myths about wearing your baby:

MYTH #1: Your baby won’t learn how to self-soothe

Babies who are carried around tend to become independent at their own pace. They also tend have lower stress levels and increased stability.

MYTH #2: Your baby should sleep in a cot, not a carrier

Babies are often more comfortable and safe falling asleep in a carrier. It is not a poor habit for your baby to fall asleep in the carrier. Your baby will eventually learn how to fall asleep in a cot or bed when they become toddlers.

MYTH #3: Carrying your baby can spoil your baby

When your baby is still a tiny little human, they have a strong need to be carried and comforted all the time. By carrying them around and loving them, you are not spoiling them, you are just providing them with the attention that they need.

MYTH #5: Baby carriers overheat the baby

Babies if carried the right way, won’t get suffocated or heated up. Always try to ensure there is at least a finger’s distance between your baby’s chin and your own skin. Keep your baby’s head visible from the carrier at all times. Bring his/her head as close to your neck as you can. When you look down, you should be able to see his/her face and when you bend your head a bit, you should be kissing your baby.

MYTH #6: Wearing your baby will damage their legs/hips

If placed correctly, in the right carrier, your baby will not face any problems in the development of their knees and hip socket. Ensure that their knees are bent and not straight up. If their legs are straight, this can cause a strain on your hips.
