Everything You Need To Know About Shopping For New Borns

Has your little bundle of joy arrived? New moms often find it overwhelming to choose the right products for their little one. Being organized and doing research for every little product when you have a tiny human being latching onto you eats up so much time that you frankly can’t afford to give. So we’ve done everything that needs to be done and came up with the only guide you’ll ever need to shop for every little essential for your newborn. You can make a simple checklist out of it and you’re good to go. So, even if you feel like you have 99 problems, shopping for your baby won’t be one ;)

Stock up on nappies

Your baby will easily go through 10 to 12 diapers a day during the first few weeks. But rather than buying the same type of diapers in large quantities, buy small packets of different brands to try and test out which one suits your baby’s skin.

If you’re wishing to take the cloth diapers route rather than disposable diapers, then make sure to have a stash of 15 to 24 diapers. You can take your pick from Flipkart.

So, if you ever find that there’s a sale on diapers, you know you’ve hit the jackpot.

While changing diapers you will, of course, need baby wipes. Again, use the same principle as that of diapers and buy different varieties before deciding on one. If you ever run out of baby wipes, you can use a soft washcloth dipped in water. It is just as effective.

Try not to indulge too much in baby clothes

Babies grow quickly, so you don’t want to invest too much in buying clothes for your newborn (although, they are super cute). Look out for clothes that are soft, comfortable and roomy enough for your baby to move and explore.

It is ideal to have around 5 or 6 onesies that are convenient for napping and playing around. Avoid ones with complicated tags and seams. Onesies with zips or button that run on the front all the way down will ensure easy changing of diapers without taking the clothes off over your baby’s head.

Also have a few shirts and pants that are stretchable so that it’s both easy to put on your child and if your child spits up or soils the pants, you can just remove that one part of the clothing and retain the other one.

A sweater that zips up is a must especially if your baby is winter-born. A couple of hats that go along with this sweater will keep your baby warm while still looking stylish.

You will also need a couple of soft blankets, a few pairs of socks and shoes. Your baby can do well with just socks but if you feel like dressing up your baby then a cute pair of shoes will go a long way.

To wash all of the above-mentioned items, buy an organic detergent liquid or powder that will keep all the clothes germ-free and non-irritable for your baby to wear.

Don’t skip on baby gear

You can carry on with your work with your baby still snuggled close to you if you have a baby carrier. Opt for one that has enough straps and harness to keep your baby secured.

And of course, you’d want to show off your baby to the outside world and what better way to do it than use a stroller. Choosing the right stroller with different reclining positions and enough storage space is not that difficult but it will make your life a whole lot easier.

If you’re planning on traveling around with your baby then a car seat is mandatory. Make sure your baby fits snugly into the seat when strapped securely. Depending on your baby’s age and weight, the requirements for a car seat will vary.

Keep your baby comfortable

As infants, most of their time is spent on sleeping. So, it’s only obvious that you do everything you can to keep them comfortable throughout the day. Although co-sleeping will let you see and touch your baby at all times, there’s a risk that the baby might fall off the bed or that you might roll over onto the baby’s side so most parents opt for cribs. If you’re still anxious about putting your baby in a crib, you can roomshare with your baby by placing the crib right next to the bed. You can start with a bassinet and then move your baby to a crib as s/he grows. You will also need a baby mattress and about 5 for more fitted sheets that are soft and cozy. Try not to stuff your baby’s crib with too many pillows, blankets, and soft toys. Keep it simple and minimal.

Everything you need to keep your baby’s tummy full

If you’re breastfeeding your baby then getting a nursing pillow will make the job much easier for you. Also, buy a few nursing bras and some loose shirts that will allow for easy access.

A Breast pump will make sure that your child gets all the necessary nutrition even when you’re away or unable to breastfeed because of any other reasons.

If you intend to formula fed then the first thing to buy would be the formula. Choose the right one only after consulting with your doctor. Pick a variety of bottles and teats and allow your baby to choose its favourite (Plastic feeding bottles must not contain BPA in them). You’ll also need a brush that can reach every corner and crevice of the feeding bottle to clean it thoroughly.

For babies that are 6 months or older, solid foods are introduced into their diets; Invest in a quality high chair, sippy cups, feeding bowls and baby spoons that will be put to use on the daily.

Last but certainly not the least...

Your little one will need a bath every other day so baby shampoos and soaps that won’t irritate his skin are a must. A bath is not complete without a soft towel to dry your baby with and you’ll need a few of them. Next, comes the lotion or powder, whichever you prefer. Opt for ones that high quality and come with a lot of recommendations.

Baby bibs will save the day when your baby starts weaning.

Apart from this, to keep your newborn entertained (and distracted while changing diapers), a few toys go a long way; Buy ones that are specifically made for babies.
