Ever Wondered How A Baby Is Born Through A Vaginal Delivery?

Childbirth is one of the most life-changing experiences for a woman. She is the one who nurtures the little one in her womb for 9 months whilst containing all the excitement of holding her baby in her arms. Every mommy’s delivery is magical and enchanting since her baby is going to be her light and life forever.

There are plenty birthing methods known to mankind and vaginal birth has been a classic method for centuries together. When a baby is born through a vagina, it is called the natural delivery. Today, we’re going to tell you how exactly a baby is born from a vaginal delivery.

1. First stage: Expansion of the Cervix

It all depends on the strength and intensity of contraction that arises in the pregnant woman. There are three major steps:

i) Increasing the starting size of the cervix

It will increase the size of the cervix and it will open from 3 to 4 cm. It takes an average of 6 to 10 hours in this step.

How Would You Feel?

You will feel uneven and unpredictable contractions. At first, they will be less intense, but as time passes by you will begin to feel the strength. Some pink discharge will come out from your vagina and you will feel a stinging pain which is similar to that of a menstrual cramp. Your body’s water may also flow through your vagina. So, you could either be in the first or second phase of delivery.

ii) Active contraction- In this, the cervix will widen by 4 to 7 cm

This is a pretty painful phase as are severe contractions in a woman’s lower back. These contractions have a high intensity and they last for about 3 to 6 hours.

How Would You Feel?

You will feel a contraction for about 3 to 5 minutes. This time, you will feel a lot of pain in the back, abdomen, and thighs. The flow of pink / brown fluid will increase due to the widening of the vaginal path.

If you have pain outside of tolerance then the epidural is given to your spinal cord. This will help you to get rid of the obstetrical pain.

iii) Last transition time -cervix will widen by 8 to 10 cm

This step will last from 20 minutes to 2 hours if you are already giving birth to the baby. If you have other babies, then it will be settled quickly.

How Would You Feel?

In this phase, you will feel the acute contraction, between which there will be a gap of 1 to 3 minutes. You will feel very tired, anxiety, weakness and dizziness. During this time your body has the highest concentration of hormone called oxytocin. This hormone helps to open the cervix in your body.

There will be excessive pressure on your rectum as you're pushing your baby out through the vagina. But do not push the baby till the doctor says yes because the baby’s head may be stuck as the cervix is expanding. There is a lot of pressure on the baby’s throat and because of this, his head may be in a different place from the body and there’s a possibility of a fracture.

2. Phase II: Push the baby!!

During this, your cervix will be fully opened. For the first time, women becoming mothers can take up to half an hour to 2 hours.

Obstetric contraction does not stop when your cervix opens. Some women vomit or feel dizzy. As soon as you start pushing, your breath will start flowing and you will not lose any energy. If an incision has been made in your vagina, then there will be excessive pressure on your vagina and rectum.

When the doctor gives a green signal to push, you then take a deep breath and push your baby with all your energy. Thus the body of the baby will slowly come out.

3. Step three: The capsule (placenta) ejection

In this wonderful phase, you’ll finally be able to meet your baby and hold them in your arms. Mind it, there will be a lot of blood flow from your body. It is also called afterbirth. This process can take from a few minutes to a few hours.

You will be so absorbed and overwhelmed after meeting your baby that you will not know anything in that unlimited happiness. Your doctor will ask you to give a little more push. Thus the cord (placenta) will come out. There will also be some pain and discomfort in this.

You will be asked to bring your baby to the breast as it helps in creating the final contraction of your uterus. It helps to separate the umbilical cord from the body. As soon as you put your infant on your chest you will forget everything.

This will be the most beautiful and priceless moment of your life which only you can feel.

Mothers who give birth to the first time in the whole process will take an average of 14 hours. However, it may be more or less than that. For those women who have given birth to a child first, it will take 8 hours for this process.
