Everybody you know is struggling with some form of body dysmorphia. There is no human on the planet who thinks their body is perfect - even the fittest people can find flaws in themselves that they need to work on. The difference between a regular person and the ones who are fit is that the ones who are fit are more driven to stay in shape. They hit the gym regularly and stick to a diet plan that works for them.
Not all of us have the time or the money to actually hit the gym to stay fit. But we still do want to get in shape. Given below are a few ways how you can start losing weight right in the comfort of your home:
1. Watch TV shows!
You can make use of the commercial breaks on TV to slip in a mini workout session. It could be a new exercise for each break - squats for one, lunges for the next, and so on. Considering that each break would be 2-5 minutes long, you would be able to get a satisfactory workout done in just one hour. Better still, you get to watch your favourite TV shows as you get fit.
2. Grab a cup of coffee
Studies have shown that drinking coffee can help boost your metabolism rate. Also, it is a well-known fact that having a cup of coffee in the morning can give you enough energy to start your day. This can also help energize your workout and will have you burning calories in no time. Just try not to have more than 2 cups per day.
3. Catch some sleep
Drinking coffee doesn’t mean you should lose out on sleep. Sleep is an important part of losing weight. When your body is well rested, you won’t feel tempted to snack too often and won’t feel the need to have that extra cup of coffee that you don’t need.
4. Rethink your food pantry
A very important and crucial part of getting fit is your food pantry. You may already know that eating right is the first step to losing weight. This doesn’t mean you have to skip meals - just that you have to start watching what you eat. Replace unrefined foods with whole grain, fresh fruit and veggies. Doing so can also help you watch what you eat and cut down on unhealthy foods. Keeping a stock of healthy snacks and throwing out the unhealthy ones can considerably help in cutting calories.
5. Chug that water bottle
An important part of weight loss, you need to increase your water intake. This means replacing all those sugary and fizzy drinks with good old water. When you feel tempted to grab a glass of juice, grab a bottle of water instead. Although coffee is good for you, try not to have more than 2 cups per day. Drink a tall glass of water instead of an extra cup of coffee.
6. Head outdoors for a walk
One healthy habit that you need to start is walking. Yes, this does involve stepping out of your house unlike the other steps but you are still making big savings by not hitting the gym. All you need is a 45-minute brisk walk - preferably in the mornings - every day. If you need to wake up early for this, then hit the bed an hour earlier. If you feel that 45 minutes is too difficult, you could start with 20 minutes and build your way up. If you don’t have that much time in the morning, you can even split the walk - 25 minutes in the morning, 20 minutes in the evening. The important thing is to get moving at least once every day.
7. Stand up tall
Whenever you are standing, make sure your posture is right. This means shoulders rolled up and back, chin up, and back straight and rigid. Consciously suck your tummy in toward your spine as you stand or walk around. This helps in building a slimmer frame.
