It becomes extremely inconsolable when your baby cries making it difficult to figure out what they needs. Whether they are hungry, tired or need some cuddling - they won’t give you those cue cards every time they are wailing. They might even sound frantic and cry repeatedly, making it difficult for you to guess what your baby is trying to tell. Here are few tips to decode your baby’s cries by paying attention to the pitch and time of crying.
Low pitched repetitive cry
If you wish to get a clue on to what your baby is trying to tell through their cries then you must note down the pitch and the type of crying that your baby shows. A low pitched crying at frequent intervals combined with a sucking motion through the tongue can indicate that your baby is hungry. Here the whiny cry is for food. You need to respond to these hunger cries whenever they cry rooting for the breast or puts the finger in the mouth. If you don’t realize the hunger attack of your baby earlier, they might end up crying even more.
Intense and piercing cries
Your baby might cry intensely when: they are craving for something like a cuddle, post-meal nap or a new diaper. You need to be extremely careful if your baby is crying intensely or is feeling finicky. Many a time it has been seen that the moment you pick your baby for play or cuddle them, they stop crying immediately. Sometimes your baby cries just to let it all out and your hug can do wonders to make them feel protected as well as safe.
When crying ends up into a steady jag
We all want to soothe our baby whenever they cry, but we always don’t know the reason behind these crying spells. This eventually builds up their fairly soft cry into a big jag. Whether tired and needing to go to sleep or getting bored - your baby will always start up with a fairly soft crying. But, this might end up into a regular crying if you try to ignore them or let them pacify on themselves on their own.
When crying lasts for hours
When kids cry we feel there’s nothing new and they will pacify themselves on their own. But the truth is that there is a reason behind your kid’s crying spell. If the crying lasts for a long time and they feel inconsolable, then they might be suffering from fever or might have colic. Make sure you calm them down and look out for additional symptoms that are making them behave like a colicky baby. This cry can tug harder at your heart as you’ll never want your baby to see in such condition.
Your newborn tries to communicate different emotions and feelings through cries. Believe me you can exactly tell what your baby needs if you keep these tips in mind.
