Ovulation

ovulation period

Ovulation is when a mature egg is released from the ovary, pushed down the fallopian tube and is made available to be fertilised. Approximately every month an egg will mature within one of your ovaries. As it reaches maturity, the egg is released by the ovary, where it enters the fallopian tube to make its way towards waiting for sperm and the uterus. The lining of the uterus thickens to prepare for the fertilised egg. If no conception occurs, the uterine lining, as well as blood, will be shed. The shedding of an unfertilised egg and the uterine wall is the time of menstruation.

A common question that arises in the mind of every woman is how to calculate the ovulation period. Ovulation usually occurs approximately 14 days prior to the next period. An easy way to calculate the ovulation period is to count the number of days from the day of your period to the day before your next period to determine the length of your cycle. Then subtract that number by 14 to determine what day after your period you would ovulate.

If your average menstrual cycle is 30 days you will ovulate 16 days after your period starts (30-14=16). Another way to detect your ovulation period is your basal body temperature (BBT). It is the lowest temperature of your body in a given 24 hour period. Two or three days after you ovulate, your BBT should rise about 0.4 to 1.0 degrees Fahrenheit due to hormonal changes and would stay that high during that period.

Only tracking your BBT for one month will not help you predict ovulation as the temperature rise occurs after the fertile window. But by tracking your BBT over several months, you can see patterns in your hormonal fluctuations and then predict that when you may be ovulating. An ovulation kit can be easily purchased and used to test your urine for elevated levels of luteinizing hormone just before ovulation. Ovulation kits can accurately predict ovulation 12 to 36 hours ahead of time and unlike other methods can predict ovulation during the first month of using them.

Ovulation Symptoms

According to a famous gynaecologist, the extent of the following ovulation symptoms vary from woman to woman, but the majority of women will experience at least one of these symptoms as they approach their ovulation period.

‣ As a woman approaches or nears ovulation, her body produces more estrogen causing the cervical mucus to become thick, clear and stretchy which helps the sperm swim to the egg that is released during ovulation.

‣ Some women will experience breast tenderness or sensitivity due to the change in hormones before and after ovulation.

‣ A woman may experience a heightened sense of smell in the second half of the cycle after ovulating in order to be more attached to androsterone, a male pheromone.

‣ A woman experiences light spotting or brown discharge which is normal. When ovulation occurs, the follicle that surrounds and protects the eggs can rupture and result in a small amount of bleeding.

‣ A woman may notice that her sex drive (libido) increases during ovulation.

How To Get Pregnant

how to get pregnant

How to get pregnant easily or how to get pregnant naturally is a question that usually arises in the mind of couples. Here are a few important ways of boosting your chances of conceiving quickly as well as natural and there are also some guidelines on when to be concerned about a possible fertility problem.

‣ See your healthcare provider

You're more likely to have a successful pregnancy when your body is up to the task. Lay the groundwork for a healthy pregnancy by scheduling a preconception checkup with a doctor to find out whether you are in your best baby-making shape.

‣ Plan for a healthy pregnancy

Begin taking folic acid at least one month before you start trying to conceive. This nutrient can dramatically reduce the risk of certain birth defects.

‣ Figure out when you ovulate

The key to getting pregnant easily and naturally is to figure out when you ovulate. You ovulate only once each menstrual cycle. If you can tell when you'll ovulate you and your partner can time intercourse for the best chance of getting pregnant that cycle.

Pregnancy Tests And Pregnancy Signs And Symptoms

You can often tell if you're pregnant by noticing at least one common symptom. Following are some early signs and symptoms of pregnancy as well as some pregnancy tests which would give you the joy of parenting.

Pregnancy Symptoms And Signs

‣ Missing Period

Once implantation is complete your body will begin producing human chorionic gonadotropin. This is a hormone which helps the body to maintain pregnancy. It also tells the ovaries to stop releasing mature eggs every month. This is one of the earliest sign and symptom of pregnancy.

‣ Raised Body Temperature

Higher basal body temperature is a common sign and symptom of pregnancy. Your body's core temperature may also increase during exercise or hot weather but when the BBT increases it's a clear symptom that you are pregnant.

‣ Increased Heart Rate

Around weeks 8 to 10 your heart may begin pumping faster and harder. Palpitations and arrhythmia are common in pregnancy. This is normally due to hormones.

Pregnancy Tests

‣ Home Pregnancy Tests

A home pregnancy test can be used on the first day of your missing period. These tests work by detecting the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin. This hormone is only found in the body during pregnancy. A chemical in the stick changes its colour when it comes into contact with this hormone.

‣ Clinical Urine Test

You can get a clinical urine test at your doctor's office. Results of a clinical urine test xanthine vary depending upon the medical facility that you visit. However, you can usually expect your results within a week of taking the tests.

Conclusion

It's an amazing experience especially for a woman when she comes to know that a little soul within her is growing. Hence the woman needs to take all the care as well as precautions when she's conceiving. She should get the pregnancy tests and should be knowledgeable about the signs and symptoms of pregnancy.
