A Link Between Vitamin D and Getting Pregnant?

The human body needs balanced nutrition to support growth and development. Vitamins are an important part of this. They are related to tissue repair, health and Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium, maintain phosphorus levels as well as keeps your bones and teeth healthy. But do you know why Vitamin D is good for you, expecting mommies?

Vitamin D has been linked to a greater chance of getting pregnant! In fact, Vitamin D may have a protective role during your pregnancy, reducing the risks of having a miscarriage.

They also found that women trying to get pregnant after a miscarriage were 10 percent more likely to get pregnant if they had enough Vitamin D. They were also 15 percent more likely to have a live birth, and were also less likely to have a miscarriage!

The study also found benefits related to using assisted reproductive techniques to conceive. In-vitro fertilization (IVF) had higher success rates in women who had sufficient Vitamin D levels.

Sources of Vitamin D

There are very few natural sources of Vitamin D, but it is best to include them in your lifestyle and diet.

- Sunlight: This is the easiest of ways to get your dose of Vitamin D. It gives you time to enjoy the outdoors, fresh air and also costs nothing!

- Fatty fish like salmon and tuna are low-mercury and fulfil your Vitamin D needs while giving you essential fats and proteins.

- Milk, cheese and yogurt are important sources of calcium and Vitamin D. They also give you protein.

- Soy milk is a protein-rich and plant-based source, good for you if you are lactose-intolerant or vegan.

- Egg yolks: Despite your fear that they may give you cholesterol, the yolks of an egg have a range of vitamins, minerals and trace elements, and Vitamin D is one of them. Eggs are good for ensuring a healthy pregnancy!
