Ageing is a natural process and no matter how beautiful your skin is now, it will go through the process of ageing. However, this does not mean that there is no way to slow down this process. Sometimes, skin tends to age faster because of reasons such as environmental factors. Pregnancy is also a reason for the ageing of the skin among women, especially after giving birth. What you need to do is take notice of these signs of ageing, which can be easily missed, and understand what you can do to keep it under control.

Given below are some signs of ageing skin and how you can care for it to look younger for longer.

Signs of ageing skin
1. Sagging skin

Gaining and losing weight frequently can make the skin lose its firmness, elasticity or tautness, giving your face a tired look and the impression of loose skin.

2. Dark spots

Dark spots also referred as hyperpigmentation, may occur due to skin injuries, acne, inflammation and sun damage.

3. Dry skin

Apart from being itchy, irritable and uncomfortable, it creates wrinkles and dry lines. Dry skin does not look appealing to look at.

4. Dull skin

Dryness is exacerbated by the wind, extremes of temperature and air-conditioning. It causes the skin to flake, chap and feels tight.

5. Lines and wrinkles

Wrinkles are an inevitable part of ageing. One has to bear lines and wrinkles as one age, but their appearance at a relatively younger age may be due to damage by the sun or excessive smoking.

6. Open pores

Open pores are often seen on the nose, and such a noise is sometimes referred to as a "strawberry nose". However, they can occur anywhere on the face, back, chest or upper arms.

7. Patchy skin

The main reason for patchy skin is considered to be the unequal melanin content in different parts of the skin. Other reasons may include the growth of foreign organisms on the skin and vascular changes.

8. Age spots

Age spots once called “liver spots,” are flat, brown spots that are often caused by years in the sun. They are bigger than freckles and commonly show up on areas of the face, hands, arms, back and feet.

How to care for it
1. Get enough sleep

Sleeping puts the body in repair mode, as damaged cells are repaired and restored when the body is in deep sleep.

2. Don’t smoke

Smoking not only kills you slowly but also damages your skin. Nicotine does not let the skin breathe and causes dryness, dullness, wrinkles and breaking of the skin. It also ruins the skin’s elasticity

3. Protect your skin from the sun

Sunlight, as essential as it may be in sustaining life, is not good for your skin when exposed to it for too enough. Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen, with an SPF of at least 15, that shields you from both UVA and UVB rays.

4. Increase your Vitamin A intake

Vitamin A is needed to build collagen and repair skin tissues. Foods rich in Vitamin A include milk, cream, eggs and butter.

5. Take in more antioxidants

Antioxidants help counter the effects of free radicals, which are nasty molecules that can damage elastic fibres, collagen and even DNA. Tomato, tea, berries, red grapes and garlic are all dietary sources of antioxidants.

6. Wear protective clothing

A hat with a wide brim can shade your neck, ears, eyes and head. Look for sunglasses that block 99 to 100 percent of the sun’s rays. If you have to be in the sun, wear loose, lightweight, long-sleeved shirts and long pants or long skirts.

7. Stop stressing

When the body is under stress, it releases hormones and chemicals that tend to age the skin on a cellular level. Try yoga, meditation or other activities are known to release stress.

8. Avoid alcohol

Excessive alcohol is bad for skin and your health in general. People who drink heavily tend to not eat a healthy diet, depriving their skin of the nutrients it needs to prevent ageing.
