7 Ways Your Body Tells You About Your Baby's Health In The Womb

It is extremely important for the mother to be healthy so that the growth of the fetus is proper and unhindered. For the baby to be in a healthy condition, the mother should be not only physically healthy but also mentally. You may go for an ultrasound and multiple other tests to find out if your baby is doing well inside, but there many external signs from which you could infer about your baby’s health.

Simply putting, the mother’s body itself is a huge indicator of the well being of the fetus or the lack of it. Here are a few ways which will help you know about your baby’s state in the womb:

1. Right blood pressure and right sugar levels.

Sugar level and blood pressure are two extremely important factors that couples need to consider before thinking of having a baby. Proper blood pressure and the right sugar level are detrimental to the fetus’ growth. Mothers should have these two things monitored during all three semesters. When both these factors are in check, they show a positive picture.

2. The placenta’s position and the uterus.

To avoid a miscarriage, the mother should get regular checkups to make sure that the placenta is strongly attached to the wall of the uterus and also to make sure that the baby receives proper nourishment. The health of the uterus also gives you a brief idea regarding your baby’s health.

3. Gaining right weight.

If you were within the normal range of weight before your pregnancy, you are expected to have at least a 10 – 15 kilos increase in weight during the course of your pregnancy. If, however, you are overweight or obese, this number may be fairly low as advised by your doctor. While most people attribute weight gain to a healthy fetus and a healthy pregnancy, people should understand that too much of anything is not good.

4. Progesterone and Oestrogen levels.

These two hormones are the most vital among all hormones, during pregnancy. A pregnant woman usually generates twenty times more progesterone than a non-pregnant woman. This is a basic requirement for the body to stop menstruation by setting up the endometrium. Oestrogen is primarily required for the expansion of the uterus during the course of the pregnancy. A pregnant woman produces about 1200 grams of oestrogen as compared to a non-pregnant woman who produces a mere 60 grams.

5. Proper belly growth.

While we all assume that the belly should naturally grow during pregnancy, most of us are not aware that there are certain limits to this as well. Your doctor will help you analyze whether the growth of your belly is low, normal or more.

6. The right growth of the fetus.

While it is possible to know if the fetus is healthy by looking at the mother, it is also very important to keep a track of the fetus itself. Ultrasound will help you determine whether or not your baby is healthy.

7. Foetal movements.

Foetal movements as felt by the mother, approximately during the 6th to t 10th week of pregnancy are an indication of the baby’s good health. Your doctor will help you monitor these.
