Seeing your little one sad is just about one of the most heartbreaking sights that a parent has to go through. In these moments, you’d do anything to bring a smile on that face. Seeing your little one smile at you has a heartwarming effect like no other. It may, however, prove to be a challenging task at times. Have no fear, making your baby smile doesn’t have to be as challenging as you may think.
With babies, don’t waste your energy looking for new and exciting ways to cheer them up all the time. Quite often, babies prefer things they know and that they’re comfortable with. So seeing something like their favourite stuffed toy or listening to their favourite song can bring a smile on their face quicker than you can snap your fingers. Always start by trying something that you know has worked out in the past. Consistency is not a bad thing.
As the great Freud once suggested, babies are very taken to sucking on things. They have this uncontrollable need to suck. This is why sucking can often help them calm down. So if your baby seems upset or cranky or like she’s about to cry, try giving her a pacifier, or letting her suck on her own thumb or our finger. She’ll probably crack a smile in no time.
What Goes Around Comes Around:
One of the cutest things to look at is when a parent and a baby engage in a smile-off. Seeing the smiles reflecting off one another has the ability to brighten up a rainy day. Keeping this in mind, remember that you, as a parent, are the primary source of love and comfort for your baby. Sometimes, you’d be surprised at how easily you can bring a smile to your little one’s face. Sometimes, all you have to do is give the little one a smile, and it’s very likely that you’ll get one in return. Seeing the face of a parent has an unmatched ability to bring happiness to a baby.
When they’re not asleep, babies love playing. Just the physical touch of a parent is capable of bringing comfort and happiness to a little one. If you want to see a smile, try making faces at your baby or blowing raspberries. Cuddles can go a long way. Get creative - make your baby fly through the air (or at least feel like she is).
Some kids can get real fussy. It’s not so much about picky than it is about having a short attention span. This will definitely keep you on your feet. If your baby is in an extra materialistic mood, be prepared with a wide range of objects to play with. Once the attention is gone from one toy, you can be sure that your baby is going to seek out another, and you’d best have it ready unless you want to see some waterworks. If you do follow through, smiles and laughter are guaranteed.
As humans, we’re all at least a little bit drawn to music. Whether you’re a hard core music lover or someone who just loves advertisement jingles, everyone likes to have some amount of music in their lives. Babies are no different. Babies love music as much as humans at any other life stage. To bring on the smile, try turning up the tunes. Play songs that your little one likes listening to or something that you think has a soothing or pleasing melody. You have no shortage of choices so you’re bound to find something that your baby will love!
Another thing that most people love being around is an animal. While everyone has their own preference, it’s safe to say that the most popular house pet is either a dog or a cat. So if you have a family pet, letting your baby and your other baby (the pet) play could be rewarding. For one thing, you don’t have to worry about the entertainment, and secondly, you still get to see your baby smile and have a great time. If you don’t have a pet, don’t worry! Stuffed toys and animals on TV work just as well!
Making your baby smile isn’t as a tough a challenge as you thought, is it? While it may take different strategies every time, as a parent you should be confident that you’ll succeed. Just remember that the key to a happy baby is a happy home. Make sure that, to the best of your abilities, the environment your baby is living in is one of love and happiness and that you shower both on your little one!
