Your little bundle of joy has arrived and things are looking good right? So many positive changes yet you discover that the ‘Flat stomach’ that new moms on magazines and Movies have right after they give birth are nothing but photoshop. Your skin sags and becomes loose around your stomach but don’t beat yourself up about it. It is completely natural and healthy.
But that doesn’t mean that it’s always a pleasant sight for your eyes so here’s what you can do to tighten the loose skin and bring it back to its old self in no time.
Breastfeed if you can for as long as possible. It is a proven fact that breastfeeding moms burn more calories than non-breastfeeding moms. As you lose more weight, your skin will start gaining its elasticity and your muscles will become more toned.
Exfoliate the skin around your stomach in gentle circular motions using a body scrub. You can do this with just your fingers or even use a loofah or a scrubber but be careful to not apply too much pressure. This will improve the blood circulation and will promote new and healthy skin.
3. Don’t starve yourself
Many new moms take upon themselves to go on a crash diet or even starve themselves in order to obtain fast results. Please don’t resort to that as it is extremely unhealthy and will affect your health adversely. In fact, once you stop with the diet ( You can forever be on it now, can you?), you’ll gain back all the lost pounds faster than you lost them.
Drink as much water and fluids as possible. It is constantly underrated but the health benefits you get from just sipping on water all day are innumerable. It makes your skin more elastic, glowing and tight.
Proteins contain a nutrient called collagen which is essential for building up the skin’s elasticity. You can opt for animal protein such as chicken, egg or fish. If you’re a vegetarian, then even beans, milk, and leafy veggies do the same job as well.
Massaging your skin with a moisturizing lotion or a cream will improve the blood circulation to your skin which is primal for a toned skin. Make sure to buy products that have collagen, vitamin A, C, E and K. You can also use plain old coconut or olive oil.
Certain muscle toning exercises like crunches, push ups and planks work wonders in engaging your core and giving that desirable shape. But be careful to not to strain yourself too hard because you don’t want to rupture your stitches (If you’ve had a C-section). And always take your doctor’s opinion before starting out a workout regime.
