7 Simple Tips To Reduce The Appearance Of Enlarged Pores

Pores.

Ugh! They are hell sent indeed. They not only make you look older than your are, but give you a dull complexion. Moreover, when these pores are embedded with impurities (which make them look larger), they aggregate into bigger evils which are blackheads, whiteheads, and acne. Pores are enlarged due to one of the following reasons, prolonged exposure to the sun, age, genetics and excessive oil production. So, here are few tips on reducing the appearance of these pores and keeping them clean to keep the above-mentioned problems at bay.

1. Scrub it off!

When pores are clogged with oil and dirt, they tend to appear larger. Hence, it is key to ensure that keep your face clean by exfoliating the dead skin off at least twice a week, depending on your skin sensitivity. However, you don’t have to spend money and invest in an expensive exfoliating scrub, you can make an effective one right at home. All you need is sugar (raw or regular) and a few drops of almond oil. Scrub in a circular motion to ensure you get the dirt off. Wash the scrub off with cold water and pat dry. Now take a cube of ice and rub it around your face. This should make your skin feel smoother and shrink those pores.

2.  Clay masks or Multani Mitti

Clay masks or Multani mitti ( fuller’s earth) are both effective means of getting rid of excess oil in the skin, which is what we want to do to reduce the appearance of pores. Mixing these masks with either rose water or lemon would help enhance that glow further. The best thing about these masks is that you almost immediately notice the results when your skin looks brighter and clean.

3. Yoghurt

Yogurt is known to have skin tightening properties. Thus, this makes a great mask to tighten pores. Simply apply a layer of yogurt onto your face and leave it on for about 15 minutes and wash it off with cold water and apply an ice cube after. Cold water or ice cubes are known to close open pores hence combining it with this mask helps obtain better results.

4. Baking soda to the rescue!

Baking soda is a kitchen ingredient which is known for its multipurpose nature. It is used to whiten teeth, get rid of blackheads, and of course in cooking. Mix two tablespoons of baking soda with a little lukewarm water. Now, using your fingers, apply this in a circular motion onto your skin. Do this for about a minute and wash off with cold water. Baking soda is not only an effective scrub but also helps restore the pH balance of your skin. Apart from this, baking soda has anti-inflammatory properties and antibacterial properties which helps you steer clear of pimples.

5. Citrus mask

To make this mask, you need to squeeze about 3 tablespoons worth of juice from a tomato and a few drops of lemon juice and mix them together. Apply this mixture onto your face. Citrus fruits make your skin burn. So, if you have sensitive skin it is best to avoid this mask and use one of the other masks instead. For the rest, a slight tingling sensation is normal. Keep this mask on for about 5 to 10 minutes and wash off with cold water. Tomatoes and lemon contain astringent properties which help remove excess oil and tighten the skin by unclogging pores.

6. Egg whites

To make an egg white mask, you will need 2 eggs and tissue paper. Crack the eggs and separate the yolk from it, we only need the whites for this mask. Now whisk the egg whites till it’s frothy. Apply this onto your face. Now, cover this with tissue paper across your face. The tissue paper should stick to the egg whites. Now apply another layer of egg whites onto the tissue and place more tissue strips over it. Now, wait for the mask to completely dry and then peel it off. This mask pulls out the impurities present on your face, including blackheads and whiteheads and shrinks your pores.

7. Apple cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar, another multipurpose kitchen commodity is an effective remedy for enlarged pores and is extremely simple to apply. Just soak a cotton pad in some apple cider vinegar and rub it on your skin gently. Cleanse your skin with this and wash it off with water. For best results, include this in your nighttime skin routine right before you sleep. Do this every night for optimum results. Apple cider vinegar has astringent properties which help tighten the skin, it has anti-inflammatory properties which help reduce the appearance of any pimples and it also helps restore the skin’s pH balance.
Apart from these above remedies, keep in mind to carry tissues or wet wipes every time you go out to wipe off any dirt that could clog your pores. Ensure that you apply an effective non-comedogenic sunscreen before you go out. Invest in a light water based moisturizer which doesn’t clog your pores and apply it before the sunscreen.
