Although most women dread those few days in a month and wish they’d never had them in the first place, they’re essential in maintaining one’s health in a prime condition. Your last period might have been a couple of months ago or your next period may last just for a day. Whatever the problem is, you have to do your best to bring it back to the 28-day cycle not just for the convenience of knowing when to expect your period.
Here are a few home remedies that are sure to regulate your periods and also solve problems like bloating, back pain and headaches during your periods.
Turmeric is an emmenagogue herb that helps in regulating your menstrual cycle by balancing the hormones in your body. Its antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties are also known to relieve menstrual pain. Turmeric can be taken in supplement form after consulting your doctor but a better option is to consume one quarter turmeric powder with milk, honey or jaggery. You can do take it everyday for a few weeks until you see an improvement.
2. Aloe vera
Using Aloe vera naturally is a great way to treat menstrual irregularities. Take fresh aloe vera extract from an aloe leaf and mix a teaspoon of honey in it. Have this mixture everyday before you have breakfast. You will start seeing results by the end of second month. But It is recommended that you don’t eat this during your periods.
3. Unripe Papaya
Green or unripe papaya is known to help contract muscle fibers in the uterus and soothe the uterine walls. You can try having a bowl of raw papaya cubes for breakfast everyday. Some people tend to not like the taste, if you’re one of them then you can mix it with sweetened yogurt.
Ginger not only comes to your aid for delayed or scanty periods but it is also known to reduce menstrual cramps. Take around half a teaspoon of ginger and boil it in water for a few minutes. Add some sugar on top to make it drinkable and you’re set! It is recommended to have this drink 3 times in day - Once after every meal.
Cinnamon is believed to have a warming effect on the body, thereby giving the kick start your menstrual cycle needs every month. If you drink milk everyday, add a teaspoon of cinnamon powder to it. You can also try boiling cinnamon sticks in water and drinking it as tea everyday.
