7 Fun And Healthy Finger Foods For Your Toddler
Getting your toddler to eat can be a tricky thing, especially if it’s something healthy. Rather than providing them with a bowl full of everything you want them to eat, go the opposite route. By giving them bite-sized foods that look and taste delicious, you can make sure they devour them whole-heartedly. This is where finger foods come in handy.
Try introducing your child to some of these finger foods and you won't regret it.
1. Banana toast
This delicious treat will make your child’s mouth salivate. Mash one banana and add it to half a cup of milk and an egg. Mix well and dip the bread slices in the mixture. Fry until the bread turns golden brown. Add a pinch of cinnamon to enhance the flavour.
2. Veg nuggets
Take finely diced vegetables of your liking. Mix them with bread crumbs or corn flour to make sure the mixture sticks together. You can also add a little bit of cheese to give it the extra oomph. Take bite-sized portions and shallow fry them. These veggie nuggets are a healthier alternative to chicken nuggets and provides your child with loads of nutrition.
3. Fruit skewers
Fruit skewers, or fruit kabobs, are colourful to look at and loaded with vitamins. If you’re scared of your child poking himself with the skewer, you can replace it with something more kid-friendly, like popsicle sticks.
4. Mini pancakes
Who doesn’t love pancakes? You can make them healthier by using whole wheat flour, oats and almond butter. These will provide your child with protein and fiber.
5. Roti rolls
Is your kid refusing to eat your rotis? Make them more appealing to him/her by making mini roti rolls and stuffing it with gravy and fresh vegetables.
6. Sweet potato chips
Sweet potatoes are non-starchy carbohydrates and are a better alternative to regular potatoes when it comes to making chips. You can either cut them into wedges or use a peeler and then season them with salt and pepper before shallow frying or baking them. Serve them with a sauce or a dip and your toddler will be asking for more by the time he/she finishes his/her plate.
7. Carrot dips
A classic carrot and celery sticks platter is one even adults can't resist. Make it more creative by distributing the colours and adding a smiley face or two using the sticks. These are super healthy and will fill your toddler’s tummy right up.
