7 Crafts From Household Items

If you have a young kid at home, chances are, he or she is nagging you about how they have nothing to do. Put yourself in their shoes, maybe you’ll understand their perspective. Yet, watching television all day long or playing video games isn’t all that productive. If anything, they make your child feel tired and take a toll on their eyes. Try this stuff instead.

1. Engage them in handmade crafts!

Getting your children involved in art and crafts would surely increase their creativity and give them a chance to explore their own imagination. Also, recycling goods would inculcate a civic sense in them – that teaches them the importance of the 3 R’s policy (reuse, recycle and reduce). So go ahead, keep them busy!

2. Aluminium cans

3. Plastic bottles

We have a surplus of plastic. Did you know you could make stunning items with plastic bottles and a little bit of paint? Like the aluminium cans, you can paint them and use them for decor too. If your child is feeling particularly artistic, you could even make little birds’ nests out of these bottles by adding some cardboard.

4. Shadow box

Do NOT throw old shoe boxed. Get your child to cover the box with attractive wrapping paper and have them decorate it any way they want to. They could even paint on it if they want. Have them decorate the inside of the box as well. Place little mementos, pictures and other items that mean a lot to your child in this box. They will cherish this box as a little treasure of their own.

5. Rockets

Take a plastic bottle and tape two cans on either side. Cover the entire thing with aluminium foil or with coloured paper, as you please. Hand your child an image of a rocket and have them copy that onto your homemade rocket. Have a blast!

6. Holiday cards

The year is full of different kinds of holidays. What could be better than homemade cards? Hand your child some glitter, bright colours, and paper which they could use to make greeting cards for your loved ones.

7. Name cards

Does your child have a room of his or her own? Then cut out the alphabets of his or her name in cardboard, wrap it up in coloured paper and hang it with a string across the wall of his room. They would love to assist you in doing this!

8. Homemade lights

Have your child paint a glass bottle with bright colours. You can fit in fairy lights or LED lights inside and use it as homemade lamps. This will add to the elegance and style of your home decor. Aren’t these handmade items cool? Not only would they keep your child busy but would also be a fun activity for them and help them enhance their creativity!
