Busy work schedules, heavy homework from school, and day to day work leaves us with no time to spend with the family. Also, whatever time we are spared with, is consumed in being glued to the screens of our smartphones and checking out the virtual world that we are totally oblivious to the existence of our real world. In a fast-paced world like ours, we really need to spend time together as a family and bring it closer. Here are some ways to bond better with your family.
1. Cook together:
Teach your kids how to cook food. This will make the activity, a family fun time and also incorporates an essential life skill in them. Make a new recipe together or teach them to make their favorite dish. Have a barbeque where everyone can cook and enjoy delicious food together.
2. Have dinner as a family:
When everyone is busy with their lives and the schedules are conflicting, try to have dinner as a family meal where everyone can sit down together and talk about everyone’s day. Fix a night, Sunday night for example, as a family night. By doing this, you will get to know each other’s life better and achieve a greater level of understanding and tolerance for one another.
3. Write notes and letters:
It is important to express, the love you have for your family. Write notes or letters to your family members on their birthdays or anniversaries or on any of their big days to tell them how much they mean to you and how lucky you are to have them in your life. Else, maybe you can just write small, cute notes for kids or your partner and tuck them into backpacks or notebooks to remind them that you love them.
4. Support each other:
Each and everyone in the family will be good at something or will have some special talent. Take time to go to your kid’s painting class or dance practice or soccer game. Make them realize that the family will be with them in all the phases of their lives. The other family members might also extend their support and this gives you a chance to spend some quality time together as a family.
5. Everyone can express their opinion:
Although there is only one head of the family, whose decisions are final, that does not mean the other family members have no rights to express their views. Everyone in the family will have their own opinion and should have the freedom to express it. This not only makes the family atmosphere filled with harmony but also makes the children confident enough to speak their heart out. Also, if the children's views are considered, they might contribute more time for the family activities.
6. Watch a movie:
Choose a movie that is everyone’s favorite in the family and watch it together. Prepare some snacks that the kids' love, to go along with the movie. Fix a day, so that everyone looks forward to it. Watching a movie with the family is a great way to bond and have some relaxing time, as well.
