Labour and childbirth are the most memorable and painful moments in a woman’s life. This is the time when you go through a lot and yet, the end result of all your suffering is the best thing of your life, a baby of your own. Multiple things happen during delivery and there are quite a few people involved in helping you meet your baby. So, there are a few things that you need to know about delivery before you actually get into the delivery room. Mentioned below are some of these things.
1. Trust your doctor
Often, moms end up thinking that the doctor and they themselves are on the opposite sides of them and that the doctor is not doing what’s best for the mom. But, that is not the case at all. Doctors, nurses and midwives are all on your side and they are and will be doing everything they can to make sure your little one comes to you in the best of health. So, it is imperative that you trust your doctor and let them do what they do best.
2. Birth plans
Yes, all the birth plans are good and well when it comes to the pre-planning but during the actual thing, most of your plans will go down the drain. Labour and delivery is not something that can be predicted as it is. So, you need to be ready for the unknown. Still, since the basic outline what exactly happens is going to remain the same, a mental birthing plan will help you get your mind and body ready for it.
3. People are going to see your vagina
You will definitely need some time for this to sink in. Yes, your most private body part is going to be seen by at least 3 people and that is apart from your husband. Something like this, you definitely need to be prepared mentally. Otherwise, you will realise it when you will be on the delivery table and the doctor and the nurse will be telling you to spread the legs.
4. Always listen to your gut
This is one thing we just can’t stress enough on. Even before your baby has come out from inside you, your maternal instincts will start kicking in. Our recommendation will be to listen to them at every step of the way. If you feel something is wrong then talk about it to the doctor or your husband. And you think that you need a particular thing near you then get it. It is your baby telling you what he/she might need when they come out.
5. Ready to bring the baby home?
During labour, most women suddenly realise that they haven’t done all the things they wanted to yet and so they end up feeling that they are just not ready to bring a baby home yet. But what you need to understand is that you will be ready the moment your baby comes into your arms. No matter how messy the house is or if you have got the perfect crib yet or not. Just stop worrying and remember that you are going to be the best mother.
6. It’s all going to change
Although a lot of women end up realising this as soon as they get to know they are pregnant, it truly hits them when they are in the hospital and they are about to give birth. The life as you know it is about to take a drastic turn and the changes are definitely going to be for the best. So, you will probably need to slowly and steadily start put this in your head and make sure that it just doesn’t hit you that harshly. You are about to be a mom and you will have a whole new world now.
