Super foods are defined as the food items with high nutrient value and which promote the growth of a person. The age of 1-3 years is among the most crucial ages for a child. This is the age group where a lot of physical and mental growth occurs. Toddlers require very specific food items that help increase their growth. These foods should also be able to cope with their high metabolic rates. For this effect, certain highly nutritious food items need to be served.
Some of these super foods are mentioned below.
All fruits, be it apple, orange or grapes, have high quantities of vitamins and minerals, which are crucial for a child’s growth. However, children don’t usually prefer eating fruits. In order to make it easier, try to mix 2-3 fruits together. You can add toppings to them like a dollop of cream or a drizzle of honey. Soon, they will develop a taste and liking towards the fruits.
2. Dry Fruits
Dry fruits contain high levels of carbohydrates and fats, which are essential for a child’s growth. Especially in winters, dry fruits like cashews, almonds and raisins help a toddler maintain core body temperature and generate more internal heat.
Salmon consists of omega-3 fatty acids, which are crucial for the development of the brain. A child has maximum brain growth during 1-5 years of age. Salmon is also known to contribute to nerve and eye development.
Oats are made up of highly soluble fibers, which help in increasing concentration and brain capacity. Giving oats to a child is not easy. To solve this problem, combine oats with fruits or dry fruits to make it tastier.
Broccoli is full of Vitamin C and helps tremendously in the absorption of iron and minerals. Adding broccoli to cooked vegetables or using it in salad will help in proper blood flow in your child's body, resulting in improved growth.
Carrots are rich in vitamins, minerals, fibers and antioxidants. They are really helpful for a child’s eyesight, skin and overall health. Eating carrots also helps in improving digestion and thus, the vegetable should be a part of the toddler’s daily food intake.
Eating healthy foods is one of the first habits that should be taught to a child. For this, a slight mix and match of various food items will not only change the monotonous taste, but will also help in the growth of your child during these crucial years.
