6 Reasons To Eat Mangoes This Summer

This article is mainly for the minority that does not like to eat mangoes. We literally wait for this fruit for months and everyone loves it, it is a wonder how some people do not. The vast majority loves to eat mangoes in different forms, there is a reason why it is named as the king of fruits in India.

But other than the long waiting period and its delicious taste, the mango has several other advantages which make it all the more necessary to be included in our summer diet. Here are a few of those reasons:

1. Protects from heat and dehydration

The juice of a raw mango reduces the harmful effects of intense heat and dehydration. This juice prevents the excessive loss of some essential salts and iron from your body. These minerals usually get lost from your body in the form of sweat and make you dehydrated. Salts are necessary for some important functions in your body whereas iron facilitates the haemoglobin which increases oxygen supply to your organs.

2. Lose weight 

Been afraid that eating too many mangoes will make you gain weight that you’ve been trying to lose? Worry no more. Mangoes contain a lot of vitamins and essential nutrients. Eating one mango will make you feel full, as it is loaded with fibrous content. Mangoes boost the digestive function and burn unwanted calories from your body. This in turn, will help you lose any extra weight which you've previously gathered. 

3. Body Scrub

Apart from eating mangoes, applying them as a scrub on your skin will give you a tender and glowing skin. Mash a mango and add honey and milk to it. Gently massage all over your skin and leave it on for 15-20 minutes. Wash off to get a smooth, glowing skin. You can do this a couple times in a week.

4. Improves concentration and memory

If you have low concentration or a bad memory, then gorge on mangoes. They are rich in nutrients and vitamins that are essential for improving your concentration as well as memory.

5. Scurvy

Scurvy, a disease characterized by bleeding gums, rashes, bruises, weakness and fatigue can be cured with raw mangoes. Raw mango powder, also known as ‘amchur’ is believed to treat scurvy in an effective manner. Scurvy is caused due to the deficiency of Vitamin C. Mangoes are rich in Vitamin C and hence help in curing the disease. Also, vitamin C promotes elasticity in blood vessels and promotes the formation of red blood cells.

6. Health of Liver and Intestine

Mangoes are great for the liver and intestinal ailments. Mangoes promote bile secretion into the small intestine which in turn facilitates the absorption of fats. This kills the harmful microbes present in the food. Mangoes are also a great source of energy. Having raw mango powder helps you get rid of the afternoon drowsiness that takes effect after your mid-day meal.

Mangoes have several health benefits and are a cure for many ailments that summer brings along with it. So next time you say no to a mango, think again.
