Hygiene is one of the most important things in anyone’s life and plays a crucial and important role in your baby’s health, since his/her immune system is growing and adapting to the surroundings. Hence, it is the duty of every mother to take care of proper hygiene near her child and to shield him/her from all the untested places during the early days and even months of your child’s growth.
A newborn baby is very delicate and susceptible to all kinds of diseases around him/her. In order to protect the baby, certain hygiene conditions must be followed by the mother. Some of them are mentioned below.
1. Wash your hands
Newborn babies don’t have a strong immune system and so, even a slight infection might lead to a severe illness. Thus, it is important to keep your hands clean while near your baby.
2. Be careful with pets around
Babies and pets indeed portray a good picture, but having pets close to your infant child might lead him/her to get sick. As the immune system of the child is weak, even being in close proximity to a pet might lead to the baby getting sick. Hence, even though your pet loves your baby, it is better to keep them away from each other for some time.
3. Sanitize all feeding equipment
All of us have a hygienic habit of eating or drinking in clean utensils for fear of getting ill. Babies though, have a much weaker resistance and therefore, all of your baby's feeding equipment must be not only be washed, but also properly sanitized, so as to prevent any germ transmission.
4. Exposing to large groups of people
It is always a good idea to not expose your baby to a large group of people in the early days. The more people the baby comes in contact with, the more their risk of an illness increases.
5. Residual umbilical cord should not be tampered with
Some part of the umbilical cord is left on the newborn once the cord is cut after delivery. This cord is a part of the baby’s skin and must not be pulled or tampered with. It dries up on its own after a few days and disappears.
6. Cleaning your baby's room
Babies have a tendency to crawl or turn on beds, floors or tables and lick these surfaces. Thus, care should be taken to not clean the surfaces with phenyl and also to clean it daily, so that no dust or other unwanted particles are present on the surfaces.
Keeping your child safe and disease-free is important and proper hygiene should be followed so that he/she is safe. Vaccinations should be provided so your baby develops a strong immune system.
