Your little one can have a stomach ache and they can have them very often too. Although it isn’t that serious to get anxious and extremely worried, your motherly instincts do make you get worried for your child. There are multiple reasons as to why your toddler has a stomach ache and the most common reasons are - overeating, infections or anxiety.
You’ll know when your child’s tummy hurts when you observe common signs like a swollen stomach or even when he/she pulls his/her legs up to the level of their chest.
Here are a few ways to treat stomach pain at home.
1. Heat application
Place a hot water bag or a bottle on your toddler’s tummy while they are lying down. It helps in reducing the spasms and relieves the pain. It helps increasing the blood flow to the skin and your child will get an instant relief from the pain.
2. The Miracle of Hing (Asafoetida)
Heat a teaspoon full of ghee and add hing to it. Heat it till it begins to crackle, and till the essence can be extracted. Apply this on the stomach in a circular motion and apply it when it is still warm. It provides immediate relief. Apply it 4-5 times if required.
3. Bland Food Only
If you notice that your child still feels like eating food despite that stomach ache, feed him/her bland food like khichdi, toast, oatmeal or curd rice. Avoid any seasoning and spicy or tangy sauces. They are easy to digest and won’t induce vomiting. They will only help the gastrointestinal tract to function normally.
4. Ginger Juice
Ginger ale is by far the best remedy for stomach problems. Ginger should be consumed in any liquid form like ginger tea, ginger-flavoured green tea or ginger ale - anything with ginger is fine. It contains a strong antioxidant, gingerol, which helps in decreasing the nauseous feeling and neutralises stomach acids.
5. Chamomile Tea
Chamomile tea helps in soothing stomach cramps, as it is a natural sedative. It aids in the relaxation of muscles and eases cramps.
It contains a combination of antioxidants, carbohydrates and sugars, which help in reducing the pain. Either mix a spoonful of honey in the tea you make for your child or just give them a teaspoon full of it.
